After having my Original 60G PS3 get the YLoD I decided on some extensive research for when i got it home from repair,
Seeing how from other peoples experience with getting thier machine's resoldered they only lasted a few months or if you were lucky quite a few months, when i got it back which was in oct 2010 i had noticed after a couple of months the fan was kicking in sooner than normal, i'd put my hand on the bottom right of the ps3 and noticed it was getting that hot i couldn't keep my hand there for more than a few seconds, even with the ps3 elevated to allow airflow underneath, I bought this fan as it was the most recommended throughout all the forum trolling i'd done, when it arrived it was just as described, i'd fitted it on my ps3, it is a snug fit but only if i removed the elevation i used, it wouldn't stay on, so having done further research people were saying it cools better when vertical, so i gave it a go, now all i can say is that after hours of gaming/watching movies it never gets so as i cant put my hand there for a short time, it is infact VERY cool, once you set the fan to a decent speed it is great.
Now my ONLY bugbear with this is that the fans are noisy, more than i expected, it doesnt sound like an aircraft engine but it seems to me that although they are bearing fans, there not brushless, they sound unbalanced. You don't need to whack the speed to full to feel the cooling benefits, it fits nicely.
For the quality of the build it could be cheaper (i paid £9.99).
I would get one again (or get a better one from elswhere) considering the huge benefits of keeping my original ps3 working perfectly..
