Bought this to replace one I bought a couple of years ago which died.
The last one I bought cost me 30 quid and worked fine until one I plugged it in and my PC wouldn't see it.
Saw this one and read mixed reviews but thought "well it's only a fiver, gotta be worth a try"
Came on time. Packing was a bit sparse(much like the instructions) but it arrived undamaged so no complaints (especially as the postage was free). USB one end and 2 DIN connectors on the other. Paperwork said plug marked "IN" goes to OUT on your device. PLUG marked "OUT" goues to In on your device. Well that about covers the instructions you get with it. Plugged the USB into a spare socket and the PC saw it immediately so plugged the other ends into a MIDI keyboard. There are various ways you can make this work. In Windows set your MIDI device to USB out. In Cakewalk make sure it is selected as a MIDI device. Either way, the keyboard sprung into life. Tried it as an Input device from my digital drum kit and worked well. In fact, exactly the same as the one I paid 30 quid for. At present it is connected to my Line 6 Pod 2 which I can change effects on my guitar without having to fiddle around part way through a song. Sorry for the long winded review but I think a lot of the bad reviews are because of people not getting the IN/OUT part right or trying to fire more notes down it than their instrument will take. My keyboard has a 32 note polyphony and as long as you keep the output from the PC to less than that, all is well. You cannot physically input more than 32 notes at once when playing a keyboard (only 10 fingers!) so unless you are transmitting backing as well then you will be fine. Latency (delay) is as I would expect but actually better than playing it through a sound card. Well worth risking a fiver for.

Cost - one seventh of the Yamaha equivalent, but high performance. Worked straight out of the box. Follow the simple instructions. Midi out to Midi In, let the usb driver self-install, show your software where the usb midi driver is, and voila. Works on my Yamaha PSR E323 to my Windows pc.

I needed a MIDI interface for use with my laptop and this was as cheap as chips, and it shows! It installed fine and the MIDI in and out showed up in my sequencer software. I tested the MIDI out by playing a GM file out to my electric piano, it was fine. Next I attemped to record some MIDI data into my sequencer from the same piano. This proved to be impossible, I played a fairly simple tune and the MIDI data going into the sequencer was corrupted. There were wrong notes, massively long notes and hanging notes, it was if the data was being scrambled. To make sure it wasn't something to do with my piano/computer I tried it with 2 other MIDI keyboards and a desktop computer. The same results of scrambled data occured. I contacted the seller and to be fair to them they did refund my money (£5.36) and did so quickly. So 5/5 for seller service and 1/5 for the item itself. It could be that there is a low quality control on these and some people might get one that works fine whereas other people get a faulty one. For the price is was worth a punt but it didn't pay off for me. I've purchased an ESI Midimate II which was a lot more expensive but works fine.
