Product Description

Product Description

Hugely impressive lyrics and a unique performer who stands out from the crowd. Lizzie Nunnery is a 26 year old singer songwriter. Following the release of her EP, "Hungry," in 2008, she played a host of venues and festivals across the UK including support for J.D Souther, Little Feat, and Jim Moray. She's made several appearances on BBC Radio including a live performance on Radio 3. Her debut album was released by Fellside Records in April 2010. The album is produced by Vidar Norheim from the new-indie band, Wave Machines. She is also an award winning playwright, with her most recent stage play "Intemperance," receiving a 5 star review in the Guardian. Her play with songs, "The Singer", was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in November 08 and she composed the soundtrack to her new short film broadcast on Channel 4 in June 2009.

"Her voice is resolute, her guitar technique admirable and all of her songs memorable...a collection of lovely songs and a spellbinding turn on the ukulele. Very special stuff indeed."

"Nu-folk with a knack for a melody and some quirky lyrics. Lizzie is unique enough to stand out from the crowd but accessible enough to get her noticed on a wider scale. Clever songs, perfectly delivered." -- Magazine

"It is Lizzie's enchanting voice that really draws you in to her sublime world; a fragile tremolo that makes you want to sit close and listen to her stories -- Mike Wilson,

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple folk for simple folk! 22 May 2010
Format:Audio CD
I saw Lizzie Nunnery supporting James Grant at The Met in Bury. She played with the aid of Vidar Nordheim a multi-instramentalist of obvious talent. I had not heard of her previously and was stunned. The simple set up belied a quite varied sound that was surprising from a two person set up.
The real steal though was in the songs simple in sound and with a use of a down to earth modern vernacular that does not come up much in the more traditional folk musings, but clearly done with more than a modicum of writing talent and a knowledge of what works well with Her own vocal style.
I would have bought this album on the night but that I had only budget for beer and the journey home to Liverpool, perhaps I could have asked for a lift as it turns out Lizzie is a local. I have obviously bought this album since and having had to wait for payday and then delivery I was foaming at the mouth when it finally arrived.
The songs are well crafted and intelligently written, the sound arrangement and production are top class and Lizzie has a voice that I cannot really give you a comfortable reference point on as I am not that well versed on Folkies and could only really throw up Rebbeca Pidgeon on some of the Ruby Blue songs and perhaps Gillian Fleetwood from The State Broadcasters, who are the band I would most liken the this album to, although that is from a limited frame of reference.
Give the samples ago and check out the website and myspace and then buy the album, by then you will be convinced.
Lizzie Nunnery is also an accomplished and award winning playwright although that side I have not looked into yet.
Just to note James Grant was spot on that night also.
