Company contains some of Beckett's most quoted passages and has been given many times on the stage as a monologue, at the Royal National Theatre, London, at Barrault's Theatre de Rond Point in Paris and elsewhere.
Company has been published in Britain both separately and as part of the late trilogy Nohow On, and now reappears as an individual novella. Samuel Beckett, the most intensively-studied author of the second part of the twentieth century, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. He radically changed the novel and the theatre as contemporary art forms and he is a major poet. Born in Dublin in 1906, Beckett spent most of his life in Paris, was involved in the Resistance movement during the Second World War for which he received the Croix de Guerre from de Gaulle, and died in Montparnasse in 1989.
