great little product - just plugged in and stuck the sensors on front of freesat box and dvd player. Can now keep the door closed on the unit which makes the wife happy! Unit has very good range for picking up remote, which is much better than before on the Humax freesat box as I always used to have to point the remore right at it. Now I can lie on the sofa and aim in the general direction without problems!

Great product, great price but the photo is a little misleading. The three IR senders are actually in series rather than being separate - ie three sensors along one long piece of wire rather than each sensor having its own separate wire with a sensor at the end. Depending on the design of your unit, this could make it difficult if you have more than one piece of kit to control and they are on separate shelves. I have one of those IKEA units (Besta Burs) which is great (and popular). I had to scratch my head a little, but after clearing up the dandruff I managed to weave the cable through small gaps between the shelves so that I could control a Sky box, Xbox and bluray player. Having done this, it works fine.

As others have mentioned - no need to open the front or leave it open (aside from plonking a disk into the Xbox/blu ray player when you have to). Overall, if you're looking to control hidden devices this product hits the spot, and when I was looking to buy one, nothing else came close, and anything that did was at a much higher price. So yeah - buy it!

I have a Digisender that I use for transmitting perfect picture to my bedroom from the the living room. It has an incorporated part that does what this HQ Compact Infra Red Remote Control Extender does - only it's very hit an miss, very unresponsive at times, very slow when it is responsive and the frustration prompted the search for an alternative for the remote.

I made the mistake of buying the SLx - Magic Eye IR Extender ... something that deliberately withholds from potential buyers the fact it requires a complete coaxial cable running from the source, through the house and to the bedroom ... yes, very 1980's.

With this HQ Compact Infra Red Remote Control Extender I didn't even need to read the instructions. On the base of one unit it says Transmitter and the on the base of the other unit it says Receiver. This is all I needed to know. I have uploaded a picture of the transmitter sitting next to a Sky+ remote to give you a sense of it's size and look.

As for performance ... it's EXACTLY like aiming the remote directly at the Sky box. The responsiveness has been 100%. The receiver in the living room is stuffed right at the back of the Sky box among the wires. I have a single pod draped at the front of the Sky box (see uploaded picture).

I can't fault device. There are two other pods that can be draped at the front of other devices like a VCR but I don't have one. Of course, this can also be used to control a HiFi system from the garden, bedroom, etc.

EDIT: Today 03 October 2012 my transmitter unit stopped transmitting. This is 4 months later. I have written an email to the seller just now for advice regarding refund/replacement. I will post here the result.

Received this piece of kit in a matter of days from ordering, and had no problem setting it up,apat from the sensors are wired too close together,so in my case used the two extreme ones,to control my satellite receiver and dvd/vcr combo.Stuck the sensors over the IR receptors, fitted the UK adapter, the most difficult part was finding a small screwdriver!Amazed at the improvement when using the Dreambox sat rx,can even point the remote at the ceiling or at 180degs from the unit, and it works great.Would recommend this to anyone, just think that the people who rate it poorly either have u/s kit,or don't understand the principles of operation.

This IR remote control sensor has achieved exactly what I bought it to do - hide wires and allow me to close a cabinet door. We have a built in cabinet in the living room that houses the tv and other attached devices. For years one door on the bottom section was always open as the SKY box and dvd player live in there. It wasn't a major deal - but just made the area around the TV look a little untidy. Thankfully, thanks to this IR sensor, the sky box and dvd player are now hidden from view and the door is closed.
I was had the device working in around 10 minutes - its simple really. The main receiver looks just like a mouse for a PC, You position that next to the TV and the 3 sensor wires are connected to the back of it, along with a power cable. I have a sensor in front of the IR sensor on the sky box and another on the DVD player. The main receiver automatically picks up the signal and controls the attached device. The sensors attached to the sky box etc very easily, just peel off the cover and they stick on. I drilled a hole in the wood to pass the sensor wores through, but they are thin enough to allow you to pass them through a door (glass or wood) and still close the door.
This product was half the price of a similar product which I was going to buy from Amazon - but I discovered this in the related products section. Saved 20 quid thanks to Amazons great data! Happy days.
