4.0 out of 5 stars practice questions for budding perfectionists 7 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I passed my A+ using this in combination with Prof Messers A+ free video material (internet)l. I chose this deliberately over the exam cram question book CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Practice Questions Exam Cram (Exam Cram (Pearson)). The sample clinched my choice demonstrating both ease of use well and the quality of the answers.

I liked too that this book unlike most other kindle books does give access to online exams. A bonus too were the tests in the appendix to test current knowledge and assess potential weak points.

On the whole I found the book easy to use. I solved each question checking the answers as I went along using the shortcut between question and answer.

Despite the exam engine being one of my main reasons for choosing this book I never actually used it so cannot comment on it. Using the pre-test saved me time because I concentrated on the areas that needed attention.

This book increased my confidence and together with prof Messer helped me do well on the exam. However as other readers have commented the questions can actually be harder than in the real exam. Personally that didn't bother me and I learned from the answers. I have used this series before OCP Java SE 6 Programmer Practice Exams (Exam 310-065): Exam 310-065 (Certification Press) where the question were intentionally harder.

I recommend this book to anyone studying for their A+ needing practice questions and suggest using it to supplement other resources.

3.0 out of 5 stars Freddie Krueger in Exam form 4 Jan 2013

These questions will scare you! Studied the material for a while before taking these practice exams. There are some worthwhile questions and you might learn something from them. Much more difficult than the actual Comptia exam. Some of the questions are way too picky and some not even relevant to the material (there is a Windows Phone question on one of the exams which is not listed in Comptia requirements). But good for practicing the exam experience just don't panic when you do poorly. I only got a little more than half right the first time and passed the Comptia 220-801 exam a 3 days later.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great study reference 20 Dec 2012

This book isn't a pushover; it will certainly test your knowledge and throw a few trick questions at you much like the real exam. It also has guides to locate you to the correct pages to test your knowledge in certain subjects.

However, to say this book has over 1000 "realistic" questions is a complete lie. There are several questions in the book that expect you to know absolutely everything about hardware, from the amount of pins inside the cable. In addition, there are some inaccurate security procedures and questions that aren't exactly practical.

A perfect example is one of the questions asks you a customer wants to have a big hard drive on windows 7, the "correct" answer was 4TB was the maximum a windows 7 machine could operate in; because as of 2012 4tb was the largest available. This is not a practical question, because the exams are not updated yearly. Furthermore, any drive over 2.9 TB requires a GPT drive!

Its a great book, just know when to ignore some questions answers. A lot of them you'll never see on the test.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of questions but some not well developed and much harder than the real test 27 Oct 2012

I went through 2 study and 2 exam question books. This was the last book and I went through the entire questions about 1000 of them and it was rather frustrating process and shook my confidence.

Shook my confidence because I was feeling pretty good about my level of understanding having gone through other books, but the questions in this book was rather difficult.

Many of the questions were much harder, rather unnecessarily, than the real test. For example, questions asks which options are available when you get to certain window. These type of questions do not help asses the technical competency rather they are memory exercises. I can perform certain tasks by choosing the options when I get to the window, but I can not remember the options in that window and more importantly the actual test now incorporates simulation. These questions are easy to develop, you just need to open a window and develop them.

Also the questions get into the details which are more than necessary. For example, one question ask about the L1 cache and why it is faster. Up to that point my understanding was because it is built in same die as the processor, but the answer says because it is small size, 128K. I spent time trying to verify this without much success...reading Intel technical documents, etc. I don't think this is the level of detail the required.

At that time I did not know and invested a significant amount of time to go through them, but since I passed both 801-2 tests, I now know. I had a feeling, but held off on the feedback until I pass the real test. Well developed questions take time and effort to produce. I feel trying to cram too many questions into one book resulted in rather mediocre product which provides disservice to the readers.

There are lots of questions in the book and some are good. But you need to recognize and study them and skip others.

4.0 out of 5 stars More practice questions are better! 16 Jan 2014

I was looking for a source for COMPTIA A+ practice questions when I saw this book listed. It's got a ton of questions throughout the book, as well as multiple practice tests at the end. My only disappointment was with buying the Kindle version of the book, not considering that I wouldn't get the CD with even more practice questions on it. I tried contacting the publisher to see if I could download the software, but they didn't have a solution for me.

This book gives good practice for evaluation of your knowledge. It works well with a good reference to study for filling in the gaps uncovered on the practice exams.
