A+ should be considered as essential by all those entering the computer maintenance industry. This is the essential book to go along with this certification.

PC Repair and Maintainance is an ever evolving 'beast' and this edition is fully updated to reflect this, with a section dedicated to Windows 7.

The whole layout is excellent, each Chapter is broken down into logical areas and where thers are 'cross overs' these are referenced to each others chapters. One of the best concepts are the 'Do I Know This Already?' quizzes which are found at the beginning of each Chapter. I have had a go at all of them and found them very useful, and sometimes 'challenging'. Then at the end of each Chapter there is a Troubleshooting Scenario to further test what you have learnt.

Each Chapter flows methodically through its contents and has Key Topic flags where there are key topics! These are very useful for those who are studying for the exam.

End the end of the book is the compulsory CD. This has some great references but I especially liked the Video Mentor content and the exam simulator which has 2 modes. One for a practice exam and another for study mode.

This book to me has 2 roles. One for those that are studying for the CompTIA A+ exams and also for those just interested in working with todays computers. I am a big believer that students who are interested in IT should be able to do a 2 year course as with their other subjects. The A+ should be part of this course giving students hands on and they should all get this book as the text book of preference for studying.

This book is not one of those used just to pass an exam and then doomed to spend the rest of its day on the shelf. It is a truly useful reference that all technicians (current or budding) should own.

Great book 3 Sep 2011

Really good book. Well written. The author uses simple easy to understand language, no technical jargon. It covers everything in the exam. The only dissapointing thing is that there's 1 lot of sample exam questions on the CD so if you do it once, you'll remember all the answers.
Even if you're not planning on doing the exam, but you are interested in how to troubleshoot pcs - this is a great starting point

Took the exam today. Passed thanks in a big part to this book.

Titles aimed at getting you trhough the exam all cover topics slightly differently. Some mention things that others don't & vice versa. This book is one of these types for sure. It explains things very cleary & is superb as a reference book for last minute cramming.

Truth of it is, if you are going to be sitting the exam you NEED this book:study it ... cover to cover & cut no corners. Every resource helps. My advice then, buy this & similar titles...buy them all. These books are the very best avaiable. They are sure to help you.
