The CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Cert Guide (3rd Edition) is a "must have" reference and resource guide 3 Sep 2012
By Jason Zandri - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I have been reading books authored and co-authored by Scott Mueller since 1998. His Upgrading and Repairing PCs books are a MUST HAVE reference for any hardware tech. The most current is the 20th edition - Publication Date: August 26, 2011 | ISBN-10: 0789747103 | ISBN-13: 978-0789747105.

I have personally used that series of books (each iteration, as it was published) for both knowledge enhancement and for reference information when I needed more detail or more precision information for any hardware subject matter at hand.

I am a certified trainer and have always told students in my A+ certification classes as well as my introduction to PC classes "if you are going to buy any additional companion book for this A+ certification class, be it for studying for the exam itself or for your reference down the road, get a book written by Scott Mueller - he is THE subject matter expert for all things relating to computer hardware."

As with the Second Edition of this book for the 220-701 and 220-702 series exams, having a CompTIA A+ certification guide written by this master for the updated release for the 220-801 and 220-802 exams is the best of both worlds - you have a comprehensive study guide for the certification exams as well as a solid reference book for future use.

Mark Edward Soper and David L. Prowse are the co-authors of this book and have more than 30 years experience in the information technology field by lending their knowledge and expertise to the guide.

The book covers all the topics in the 220-801 and 220-802 series exams which has been updated to include information on the Windows 7 operating system from Microsoft.

The CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Cert Guide (3rd Edition) holds the CompTIA Authorized Quality Curriculum (CAQC) accreditation. What this means is that the training material has been "Authorized" under the CompTIA Authorized Curriculum Program.

Books and study guides that have this seal from CompTIA have been reviewed by industry experts and approved by CompTIA through the program and are considered the best resource for self-study for an exam.

The review and approval process confirms material offered meets exam objectives, language standards and necessary hands-on exercises and labs. Students, training organizations and educational institutions recognize the CAQC logo as the quality trademark of CompTIA certification materials.

The 18 chapters of the book are concisely broken down by topic and subject matter.

The opening section of each chapter titled "This chapter covers the following subjects", outlines all the topics that are going to be covered in the chapter.

At the end of each chapter there is a section titled "Exam Preparation Tasks" that outlines the most important topics in the chapter with the study element and the page reference where that topic was discussed for easier review.

Most chapters have some level of step by step walk throughs (showing the series of steps to complete a task) as well as "hands on labs" for you to do the walk through on your own in a practice scenario.

Additionally, there are chapter review questions for you to answer that gauge you on your understanding of the material presented in the chapter which include complete answers and explanations

The CD that accompanies the book includes 2 complete practice exams using the Pearson IT Certification Practice Test engine. The testing engine allows you to customize how you take the exam and offers the results of your practice test attempt by offering you an assessment about how you might be able to focus your study on any areas where you are weak or need more understanding of the topics and materials. The CD also contains beep codes, memory tables, and a glossary.

The CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Cert Guide (3rd Edition) is a "must have" for anyone starting out on a new IT career and / or for anyone that has a need for a solid reference and resource guide for computer hardware.

Great resource for A+ certification study, as well as keeping up with current technologies. 30 Sep 2012
By Jim K. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is a great resource for those looking to study for and pass the A+ certification exam as well as anyone looking to learn about or stay current with PC hardware and troubleshooting technology. I have read many books on computer hardware and troubleshooting, but this book is one of the best and most thorough resources that I've read to date. It covers all essential objectives of the current A+ certification exam requirements, plus gives "real world" tips, hints, and examples to provide the reader with more than just the basic textbook type information. There are areas in each chapter marked "Key Topic" so readers can review the information they are most likely to see on the exams. Helpful tables are provided to make study and memorization of required information easier to digest and learn. There are labs at the end of each chapter to give the reader a "hands on" approach to learning, as well as review questions & answers (with explanations) for each chapter, to gauge what you've learned and where your weaknesses are. The included CD contains Memory tables for study as well as practice exams to further gauge your progress and help to study for the exams. These are extremely helpful to get a feel for what you're in for when taking the certification exams. I highly recommend this book for anyone studying for the A+ certification exams, educational institutions looking for a textbook for computer hardware/troubleshooting classes, IT professionals looking to stay current with hardware technology, or anyone wanting to learn more about computer hardware and troubleshooting.

CompTIA-220-801-220-802 A+ Authorized Cert Guide 2 Oct 2012
By Michael P - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I have over 15 years in the field of break fix with PC systems. I no longer fix PC systems and have worked my way up to the top of the network infrastructure. I started my career with A+, then moved to Network + and Server +. Today, I enjoy working with Vmware, Microsoft Hyper V, Server 2012 and new technologies. I am able to build my own servers and computer systems. Because of A+, I am able to be self-sufficient a climb to the next steps. Remember, a server is nothing more than a bigger computer system.

All of the Comptia books are great reference and easy to follow. All you need to do is commit to a time for study and stick to it. Soon you wil have your certification and be recognized for your time.

A must have for your certification needs! 2 Oct 2012
By Constantin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Since Comptia decided to make their certifications renewable, I had to go back and take my A+ certification again to stay relevant and to make sure my resume looks good (why not?).
Looking at the objectives I realized many things have changed since 8 years ago when I first got certified with Comptia so it was obvious I needed to start burshing up a bit and get up to speed.

I am glad I bought the Authorized Cert Guide 220-801, 220-802 because is the perfect companion for first time exam takesr as well as people who want to get re-certified or refresh their memory.

At first the thickness of this book may be a bit scrary, but it is one of the very few well written technology books and you should be able to breeze through and learn a lot while you are doing it.
Each chapter has lots of illustrations and real life photos to stimulate your visual memory and each chapter end has a lab and a set of questions to asses what you have learned. The best part is while you are getting the answers at the end to check your performance you also get a detailed explanation on the correct and wrong answers. I found this to be a very useful excercise because you also understand why your answer was right/wrong and you can quickly see what do you need to go back and read about again.

The book is riddled with Notes and Caution paragraph that will give you real life adices that will come handy both with the exam as well as your performance in this field.

If you read the book and concentrate on doing all the hand on labs, one should be able to pass the exam with no problems.
I passed both exams with 96% and 92% after reading the book and doing the labs.

Poorly organized 23 Aug 2013
By Roman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I know that the A+ is entry level cert and the book may be OK for those who just start to learn about the computers.
I personally didn't like it because objectives from two exams are mixed together, and it is hard to review what do you need to know for the exam.
