I loved the first Community Service mix by TCM, but I really do think this one surpasses it. There is so much to recommend on the record, although it is arguably a bit more commercial than the first (not that you hear a lot of Evil Nine and Koma & Bones played on the radio, but if you listen a lot of breaks, most of the artists will be very familiar). I don't think the commercial factor detracts from it though - if anything, it is a retrospective of some of the really great tunes that have been floating around for the last few years.

Amongst the highlights are cracking mix of Roadhouse Blues by the Doors mixing sublimely into We Have The Energy by Evil Nine, the welcome return of Keep Hope Alive (the first TCM tune I ever heard and which made me buy the first album) and stunning build up and execution of Reign by Unkle and Ian Brown.

The only one that lets it down for me is the New Order track. I will probably be vilified for saying so, but I have never been a huge New Order fan, and I found it didn't sit that well with the rest of tracks on here, especially coming after the tough industrial sound of Starting Over and Bound Too Long. Still, it is a niggling point and just down to personal preference.

Overall, a superb compilation, long may the Crystal's community sentence be enforced!

Community Service just keeps getting better and better! 5 April 2005
By Christopher Catalano - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I purchased this cd the day it came out. If you like the first community service album, this one blows it away. There is not one slow track on this disk. TCM is coming through my town and I cannot wait to go see them! If you are a Doors fan, this CD is a must for their Roadhouse Blues Remix.

Dark and deep cuts characterize this mix 1 Aug 2005
By Geopainter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Crystal Method showed us their skills as DJs in addition to producing on their 2001 mix, "Community Service", They're back at it with this offering, and they don't disappoint! Rising stars like Evil Nine and Elite Force feature alongside "names" you may recognize like Koma + Bones and Meat Katie. The breaks are relentless, not slowing until the final cut, and the track selection and transitions are excellent. The disc is worth hearing for several reasons: Like their last mix, TCM serves to expose you to new talented producers that you might enjoy hearing more from. Also, this is the place to get the unreleased Crystal Method track "Kalifornia" (which has a dark, urban feel similar to the style of both Vegas and Tweekend), as well as their awesome rocking remix of the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" and a respectable take on New Order's classic "Bizarre Love Triangle". The only down moment comes in the form of the final cut, New Originals' remix of the Smashing Pumpkins' "1979", which borrows extensively from the original without adding anything special or new, and is also the most subdued track on the mix...a necessary come-down from the beats?

BEEzare Love Triangle 10 April 2005
By Fieval Years - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Just wanted to say I was hesitant about buying this CD because though I love electronic music...sometimes lately its' hit and miss. The CD is full of energy and beauty. Fans of Crystal Method's grooves will not be disappointed. But, what if you are a fan of Smashing Pumpkins or New Order only (two tracks mixed on this CD). Both Smashing Pumpkins "1979" and New Orders "Bizarre Love Triangle" are bait for fans of both bands because they are two of best songs in an awespiring catelog of music. I kept checking these reviews hoping somebody would comment on these two mixes. On this CD the lyrics are pretty much axed on the pumpkins "1979" but the song is cool just barely any of the lyrics make the cut. Whereas, if you are a fan of New Order the Crystal Method saves the day with a mesmerizing mix of Bizarre Love Triangle with all the lyrics in tact. The album is non-stop energy and though I hoped all lyrics would be in the 1979 mix. The New Order Track is worth the price of the CD alone for fans of New Order/Joy Division. I blindly bought the CD and rode away gleaming with the mix and killer Crystal Method tracks. Hope those in doubt but fans of the two bands find this review useful.
