This volume uses the results of a national survey of community college leaders to identify the major challenges and opportunities facing student affairs practitioners in the community college and to describe the most effective strategies for meeting these challenges. Chapter authors discuss the profession′s core values, explore the need to replace anecdotal cultures with cultures of evidence, identify support services that really matter, examine opportunities for partnerships with faculty, evaluate the significance of emerging research on career counseling and support for students from populations historically underrepresented in higer education, and provide tools practitioners can use to assess the institutional climate for mearsure the effectiveness of student affairs programs and services at their institutions.
