Product Description

Review

This is a beautifully presented, easy-to-read, up to date, evidence-based, practical guide to communication skills. This can be a difficult subject to convey - and engage the reader - on paper but the subject is alive on these pages. To be recommended to anyone who communicates!

This book is amazing for two groups: 1) those that have not paid any attention in communication skills classes 2) those that really want that extra 'boost' in their communication skills The different chapters in the book touches a variety of topics and gives you a very practical approach to communicating with patients, with sample scripts that demonstrate the points the authors want to make. There are also 'think boxes' for you to to contemplate as you read the chapter. Although this is not a book for one to bring onto wards, i would highly recommend this book for anyone that wants a quick read on how to brush up their communication skills and to gain some practical points to practice the next time they talk to their patients.

This book emphasises the importance of communication skills and uses the "life-long" learning approach. The content is good, covering a large range of doctor/patient scenarios in which to improve or adapt our communication - increasingly stressed in today's curricla ...It is an interactive book with questions, set tasks and feedback sections and summaries of key facts. Definitely worth a look!

I am doing a degree in Occupational Therapy and bought this book as it was on the reading list. It has an interactive style where the reader is encouraged to stop and think about her own experiences. However, as a mature student I did find that some of the information it gave was very much a matter of common sense. Also, I felt that it was very much geared toward medics and sections of the book weren't particulary useful to me
