This is an extremely helpful publication by Elizabeth and one which I would suggest should be handed out to all new starters when they join a corporation's graduate training programme. The material Elizabeth covers is common sense however the presentation style, with warnings, tips and anecdotes makes it a thoroughly enjoyable read for communicators at all levels. It can be used as a cover to cover guide or as a "dip in" resource for specific topics. Reading the book I found myself thinking "it would be great if Elizabeth was to cover...." only to turn the page and found that she had done just that! It makes for a very logical read. The only thought that struck me (and possibly this is for the next release of the guide) would be for Elizabeth to include her observations on global communication for dummies, sharing thoughts on how to build rapport over video conference and telephone calls. A great guide and certainly recommended reading for new comers to the workplace (as well as managers who may need some gentle reminding!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Elizabeth 20 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback
When I found out that Elizabeth had written this book, I had a copy sent to me straight away. I love the way she writes and knew that this book would not only set the chapters out into easy to digest pieces, but it would be full of common sense. I was not disappointed! Communication Skills for Dummies came out just as I was rewriting one of my training courses on Written Communication skills and it proved to be an excellent friend and reference to have at my side as it was full of hints and tips. Thank you Elizabeth.Communication Skills For Dummies (For Dummies (Language & Literature))

5.0 out of 5 stars Communication Skills 13 Mar 2013
By Liznbri
Format:Paperback
I had intended to use this a reference book, however, the style of writing and the messages conveyed - suck you in to reading the whole book. Very easy to read and understand with useful tips and information covering a wide variety of situations. I have begun to use some of the tips to great affect. Recommend this book to anyone - especially if you are a communicator - also her book on body language - another brilliant book. Keep up the good work

Format:Paperback
Elizabeth Kuhnke's book contains very useful information on how to communicate effectively, and packaged in the usual "Dummies" format for easy reading. I particularly liked the section on Communicating across Distances - as so many of us have to work in a virtual manner these days, with tips on texting etiquette and tweeting, so no excuses for not doing it correctly!

Also, there are practical tips on the "seemingly lost art" of writing personal letters with examples of what to include in a letter of condolence, a thank you letter and an invitation to dinner.

I think that most people will be able to make some small improvements to the way they communicate by reading this book - and it is not just for "dummies" but for seasoned communicators who sometimes forget the basics of good practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Refresher! 9 April 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I found this book really great. For someone, like me, who has been out of school for a number of years (I won't say how many) then this is a wonderful refresher. I really enjoyed the sections on modern technology because I happen to be the world's worst texter. I swear I am! Hubby will text me and use some of the common slang and I am like "What?" This book was so helpful I think I am going to start using it in my homeschool lessons because the sections on Communicating Across Cultures and The Part of Tens is so helpful. I think that the kids will gain a lot from it. The Part of Tens gives you ten essential tips for speaking face to face which I think everyone needs. The Communicating Across Cultures will help them learn what I already try to teach them everyday and that is to accept cultural differences. As with all of their other books, For Dummies books delivers another winner for easy to read and understanding a topic!

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective! 21 April 2013
By Rhiana Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Author Elizabthe Kuhnke, is the author of Communication Skills for Dummies and is highly qualified, running a UK communication company on a day to day basis helping people run effective communications within their organizations.

This is a short but effective manual on business communication. Fifteen chapters go over the essentials basics like communication styles, goals, negotiation and communicating across cultures. I found the chapter on getting yourself out of sticky situations especially useful for my job in Customer Service. The tips and explanations are clear and concise and are useful to anyone from a student to a 20 year executive. Anyone in any industry needs to know the fine art of healthy and productive communication. This would be a good reference to keep on hand in the office for team training and employee education.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good overall book on how to develop communication skills 20 Mar 2014
By John Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
As with most of the "Dummy" books, Communication Skills for Dummies by Elizabeth Kuhnke presents a comprehensive and clearly stated overview of how to develop skills for communication in an informal and even humourous style. The book is divided into six parts covering such topics as Honing Your Communication Skills, Being Receptive to Others, Managing Communication Challenges and Communication Across Cultures. I found the latter chapter particularly useful as I often interact with people from different countries and cultures. The author focuses mostly on face-to-face situations but also covers communicating with technology such as email, by phone and in written form.

A good solid guide for everyone who communicates.
4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a novice or expert. 11 Nov 2013

Great book and it has some very good points, but I feel like it's all over the place when you're reading it. It's hard to keep track of all the things you're learning because of how much it jumps around, but at the end of the day it's still a great buy.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best format for the technically-minded. 21 Aug 2013

I chose this book because the format was perfect for my husband. Not only was he enthused to receive it, but he actively wanted to read it. He likes the manual-style format of this book, so much in fact that he is looking at the entire line of For Dummies titles.
