Product Description

From the Publisher

Biography
When Communication Link came out in 1984 it was a pioneering book in a much needed area, since then it has been regulary revised and now updated for the latest 3rd Edition.

The book now contains approximately 1,900 commonly used signs in clear line drawings with explanatory captions, which now have more information on contextual meaning and variation, as well as a 2,900 word index in alphabetical order.

Several other books have been produced using Communication Link which include the unique Songs In Sign, Children's Sign Dictionary, Signs For Beginners and Signs For Use In Hospitals.

Please could you also note that this is not a commercial publication, it is still produced in Beverley School as it has been since it's inception and any profit which the project makes goes directly to enhance the education opportunities of our children.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alphabetical Dictionary 25 Jan 2005
By A Customer
Format:Spiral-bound
Along with "Dictionary of British Sign Language" by David Brien and Mary Brennan, "Communication Link" is the most consise BSL dictionary available. With plenty of signs and good explanations, this book is a nice help when learning BSL. that some signs learned in BSL classes can be regional signs and may differ from the dictionary's entry.
However, it is a shame, that signs have not been arranged thematically instead of alphabetically. Riekehof's "The Joy of Signing" on ASL is done that way and readers can much easily find information in sections like family, education, body, etc. This also encourages to read about similar signs within sections.
Let's hope the 4th edition of "Communication Link" will rearrange its signs in a more learner-oriented way and put signs in different topic sections and just have an alphabetical index of signs in the end.
More grammar wouldn't harm either.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good reference source for the BSL student 20 Dec 1999
Format:Spiral-bound
This book is quite simply brilliant. A must have reference source for the beginner and expert alike. Has aprox 1,900 illustrations (which are of the highest clarity)along with a precise and easy to follow instruction for each of the signs. Vocabulary has obviously been carefully chosen - contains the signs people "actually" use in every day situations. Very very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Communication Link - A useable sign dictionary 27 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:Spiral-bound
A sign dictionary that is easy to use and easy to understand. Must be good as people keep 'borrowing' my copy... I'm on my fourth copy in 10 years.
I also own the BSL dictionary - this is the one I reach for and use!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dictionary of Signs. 6 Nov 2009
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
I had been using an old copy of "Communication Link: A Dictionary of Signs." for years. It was very easy for me and my Downs Syndrome son to use.So when I need to replace it, I was not very happy as normally the "NEW" of anything is never as good as the "OLD" one. But, I am very pleased to report that this new dictionary is just as easy to use as the old one and it is far more comprehensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sign Dictionary 13 Jun 2014
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
The item was just as described. It was an item that had been used and was described as in 'excellent condition'. This turned out to be true as the item was indeed excellent condition and well worth the price I paid. It was delivered on time and was securely packaged. A good buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars received the book in good time. 27 April 2014
By Derek
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
it was a shame that the seller was not more honest with the description, when the book arrived some of the pages were stuck together with what looks like tea or coffee that had been spilt over the book and not even wiped off the cover.
i have cleaned the book and use it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good 14 Dec 2013
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
Bought this to help with sign language level 1. So far there have been few signs which I have needed to know which aren't in the book. Drawings and descriptions of the signs are good. Book is a bit out of date but still very useful.
