If you're new to severed heads then this is a good way to start. 140 mins of music for less than a tenner.
Disk 1 contains some really early stuff - before sev's found their feet but disk 2 is brilliant!
It's worth buying for the first 5 tracks on disk 2 alone! classics!
Big car retread is brilliant for annoying your neighbours! Get that track on next time you're havin a party & I bet everyone wants to know who it is!
I've loved the sev's for years & want everyone to hear them :-)

I found this squirrelled away on the Adelaide festival website and thought it looked all right. Severed Heads, is, dare I say it, an Australian Kraftwerk; techno with a dancey theme - surely a good thing: instead of haring down the Autobahn at 140 in your BMW, Commerz makes you want to dance in the sand.

The curation could've been better thought out 20 Sep 2014

I discovered Severed Heads in 1986. My first album was Come Visit the Big Bigot, my second Since the Accident and third Blubber Knife. I've since listened backward, then forward until today and I can say that this collection isn't as well curated as it could've been.

Tom Ellard has been pretty vocal about his distaste for the Severed Heads project beyond a certain year anyway so I don't think this selection was particularly inspired. Still, there are definitely some gems on here.

My biggest complaint is the presence of a few remixes on this disk. This may be a personal preference but I prefer compilations like this to be comprised of the original album versions - not remixes. Make a remix disk for that. This is important because 80s remixes were thoroughly ...special. Producers got off on using samplers to simulate the then exciting cutting and scratching that were so newly introduced by Hip Hop at the time and for some things it just wasn't appropriate. Neither Dead Eyes Opened, Petrol nor Hot With Fleas needed a remix.

Still, there are some great tracks on here and I'm glad he thought to compile a collection.

Side note: I'm sad that Ellard has taken the George Lucas route and kind of shelved his original stuff in favor of releasing retroactively "improved" versions. All of the energy and character were in the original releases, in my opinion. It's fine if his vision wasn't realized in the original versions - make improvements. But keep the originals available.

some good, some not so.... 3 Jan 2013

so hate me for saying such, but this album has little commercial appeal, and is presented more for the die hard fan than someone looking for ear candy of their later releases like rotund for success. I had some early releases on cassette (which i picked up in bargain bins, under $1 at record stores going out of business) never heard of such group, but saw they were release under the netwerk label, and being familiar with the genres found on such label, i spent between .10 and .50 on about 3 ep's, and rotound for success, and after listening to bless this house (on big car?) i was hooked...unfortunately, through unavoidable circumstances, my stash of tapes was carelessly thrown out, and to no avail, i was able to purchase the releases (ep's) by conventional means, at a reasonable price,..until, ComMerz.....to my disappointment, only TWO tracks from rotund are found,(neither being my favorites) and, however, to my pleasant surprise, a mix of petrol/lamborghini is captured...however, many of the tracks i came to love on releases found on eps are absent from this extensive compilation....so, while there are some descent tracks, many seem to take up space that could have been used to accommodate more listener freindly selections.
