Product Description

Description

"Folktronica" may be one of the hardest genres to pull off,as most releases fail as both folk and electronic music, and the combination can often result in a punchless muddle. Tunng--a mesmerizing duo hailing from London, England--are thegenre's heroic exception. COMMENTS OF THE INNER CHORUS, theband's second full-length, succeeds by fusing the work of each style's most accomplished legends--the intricate melodicpluckings of the Incredible String Band with the organic throbs of Aphex Twin--into a wholly original brew. With each track, Tunng create a riveting aural universe where robots and druids play Pong in the woods together.

5.0 out of 5 stars intelligent music, 14 Jun 2006
By C. Emmas "music is math" (Wirral, England) - See all my reviews

I am always on the look out for music that is clever, that pushes the boundaries of conventional intrumentalism and that is unique in its form. I bought this on a whim having read a good review and I am really glad I did. The Beta Band are my all time fave and even though King Biscuit Time are great I need something to fall back on, something to tell me that there are always people with vision out there that can create beautiful music without compromise. There is definite elements of the Beta Band here with its weird random sound inclusions, also there are hints of Lemon Jelly with the sampling of tracks from old 1950s radio/films. Yet the thread that keeps it together is a wistful, ebb and flow of feel good folk lyrics and gentle sweeping guitar. Other sounds in the melting pot are perhaps a touch of Kings of Convenience and Belle and Sebastian but Tunng are more complex overall..But then credit to them they are thankfully really just out on thier own... this is truly beautiful, intelligent music...go buy it, as I am going to buy everything else they have done.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quirky piece of excellence, 27 May 2006
By Mike J. Wheeler (Kingswinford, England) - See all my reviews

I bought this having read a newspaper review and not having either heard of this band before or heard any of their music. On first play I was hooked. Musically this album is superb. beeutiful melodies inhabit this piece throughout and in each case the music is accompanied by fantastic mellow vocals. The background bits of spoken voice and weird noises perfectly accompany the melodies and give the album a weird and sometimes quite sinister feel. The review that i read described this a bit Wicker Man-ish and I can see where they are coming from. I highly recommnend this one. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, 13 Mar 2007
By Mr. M. Purdy (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews

How does a band as good as this remain underneath the radar of the masses? One can only conclude that the mere mention of the word 'folk' terrifies the average man in the street.
Tunng are so much more than "the new vanguard of folk", or any other label that reviewers may wish to put on them. Pop, psychadelia, electronica - it's all here and done with such a deft touch.
What makes this band so special is the playful element to much of their work; it's like The Whicker Man soundtrack updated for a new generation of home computer fans.
Truly impressive stuff. Love it.

Really great!
My husband says this sounds like Peter Gabriel (he meant this as a compliment, not sure what Tunng would think about it though!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I expected to really love this CD, I'm mad about Psapp and Hanne Hukkelberg who also use little noises and bleeps and things in an interesting way. Read more
