...for someone to write an uninteresting and unengaging work on the Gospel of Thomas, yet here it is.

Each logion has sections labelled 'A' and 'B' in the following commentary. There is no explanation within the book itself as to the distinction between the two, but I am assuming from the back cover that they are intended to cover "the function ... within the frame of piety and theology of the Thomasine group" and "the gospel's literary shape and its history, including its relation to the historical Jesus" respectively, but if so this separation is not entirely clear. The comments on each logion do not provide much of a window into either aspect, and there certainly seems to be little original or insightful.

For a scholarly commentary, I would head instead for Valantasis' The Gospel of Thomas or Plisch's superb The Gospel of Thomas: Original Text with Commentary, both of whom Pokorny often references (or perhaps even Hedrick's Unlocking the Secrets of the Gospel According to Thomas: A Radical Faith for a New Age which is not quite as much in the 'spirituality' camp as the title may suggest; the commentary per se is not as thorough but there is a lot of information concerning parallels). This Pokorny book quite frankly just feels like a waste of time when there are these other so much better works around to which this adds nothing new.
