Book Description

12 May 2011 Commando
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Commando comic, which was first launched in 1961, the latest in this bestselling series of anthologies presents the ten greatest-ever commando raids stories. Raiding is what Second World War commandos were trained for, and these thrilling comic-strip yarns show true-Brit heroes assaulting all kinds of enemy targets from the land, sea and air. Stealthy, resourceful, daring and hard as nails, the commandos succeed against all odds in accomplishing their missions, whether against fanatical Nazi storm troopers or ruthless Japanese jungle-fighters. "Commando: For Action and Adventure": This epic new collection of classic stories contains plenty of both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grenade blasts from the past 6 Jan 2012
By Kenneth F. Mcara VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
I hadn't realised until recently that I shared a significant birthday with Commando comics. For a while as a child I used to get these regularly and enjoyed their straightforward, exciting tales told in graphic form.

In this publication, 10 of the most exciting raid-based stories are reprinted together. The format is slightly larger than the original comics and it is on thicker, higher quality paper. The original covers are printed at the end of the book and diehard collectors will wish that they had been reproduced in colour and full-size.

Nevertheless, this is great fun, if you can cope with the 2-dimensional "Jerries" who roar "Achtung! Schnell!" and "Die Englander!" at every opportunity. Almost unbelievably, the series continues to be very popular in Germany.

For boys of all ages!

It's Commando Comics...if you are of a certain age then you will probably have probably grown up reading these and you don't need a review of them.If you've never read a Commando comic then a brief review would be....War stories in pictures, good stories, good guys always win(and even the cowardly/useless/dishonest characters reform).Always a good read.
