If, like me, you are in any way interested in reliving your chidhood, then this book will bring back a lot of memories! I was brought up on these comics and now have a considerable collection. This book has an intro from the current editor and then some superb stories, all of which capture the stiff upper lip attitude of the comics. There is a small input on the covers but no more unfortunately.
Most of the stories number pre 600. The art work is superb and if you arelucky enough to pick up copies of Achtung Commando, then your reference material is complete!
If you don't already own the comics conatained in ther book, then this is an essential purchase.

I discovered a friend had never heard of, let alone read a Commando book as a child. I was amazed and dismayed. What, I wondered, had the poor chap done to be so deprived? I shudder think what dialogue he made up for his Action Men without access to this rich source material.

Anyway, a brilliant idea to publish this collection - let's have more.

I have to wonder how many of these they sell to people who aren't men over 40 but it's a fantastic trip back to the comics which were essential reading and playground swap material in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

I was caned for reading this at the back of Double Latin - and still think that I make the right choice while the teacher was a Squarehead spy.

My parents bought me this book some years ago, I remember smiling when I got it at Christmas, coz I'd never fully engaged with these graphic novels as a child.

As an adult, it was more the good old-fashioned nostalgia value of honest-to-goodness, cheap black and white comic strip heroics. The artwork for me shows a magnificent effort on the part of the artists. The stories are also quite tightly written too. This is sheerest high adventure and well recommended. (though perhaps a tiny bit naughty for being so non-pc hehehe).

Previously, I've only dipped in here and there, but... am I the only suffering from the loss of pages 705-720?

The book I have looks intact. These are not ripped out pages, this is how the book was sold. These pages are simply not included. Does this demonstrate a serious problem with the publisher? Ultimately, what happens at the end of Man of Iron? What about the start of Glider Ace? These are burning issues!
(I'll chase that problem up elsewhere, so in the spirit of all serials, this is a matter... TO BE CONTINUED...)

Despite these problems, I'd still say this is a 10 star production.

PS: Remember to buy a small torch for whoever you're buying this for. This book should only be read in bed (preferably under the covers) by torchlight. Then you can drift off to sleep and dream about wonderful tales of daring-do.

Pip-pip, Tally-ho! and Chocks away, Ginger!

Back in the mid '70's, I used to have a paper-round. The two best days, were payday and the day that the new commando books came out. I would get my newsagent to order them for me and he would take the cost of them out of my wages. I would read and re-read them over and over again, before storing them away in my room. Reading these books again reminded me of those happy childhood days. Great stuff - thank you.

I bought this as part of my son's Christmas present. He could not put it down on Christmas day. His wife and sons were not so pleased. Mum knows best.

The stories brought back all the fun and enjoyment of reading Commando comics and are representative of the range of stories they gave you. Buy this and the other Compilation "True Brit" then you can save about £20 pounds and you can get them now instead of waiting for the new proposed compilations Commando are proposing to sell in four different titles for £9.99 each and they are not released yet. The new titles are "The Deadly seas", "Commando Marching to Glory", "Heroes Fly High" and "Rampaging Raiders". Much better value to buy these loder titles and get them now than wait. If you already have these older titles then you have all the stories being rereleased again by Commando. Pity they do not take the opportunity to release different titles to those they have already put into compilations.
