3.0 out of 5 stars Arnie's Finest Era, 12 Sep 2008
By DL Productions UK (Merseyside, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Arnie's back, this time as Matrix, a guy who was involved in the special services. He's been hunted down after they discover the identities of the people who did bad deeds under the name of the law. They want Matrix to kill the president, so they can take charge of a Latin American island. They're seriously considering killing his daughter, so Matrix has to be fast!

This is a fun movie if you like action adventure, but the plot is a bit thin on the ground - but if you want guns and guts this will please you no end. Shame the transfer is poor - MPEG2 running at a steady 30MB/s, but the picture quality is just not convincing: moments in the film look grainy and over-compressed; and the sound even has a few pops and clicks along the line. Shame they didn't get a better master.

The film doesn't have any extras, so no commentary or anything useful, just a bunch of trailers. I think this is a bit cheeky and is a shame to die hard Commando fans, who probably want to get more insight into this rather good film. Also the film is still the cut version, so those of you hoping for an uncut edition might as well keep their VHS copy, doesn't look like we'll see it, for now anyway.

3/5 for the film, 1/5 for the HD transfer and 0/5 for the extras.

You'd be better off getting the DVD, seriously.

3.0 out of 5 stars Blu-Ray disaster, 4 May 2008
By D. W. Chester "HD Movies for me!" (Woking, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I love this movie. It is one of my all time favorites.

I am, thereofore, extremely annoyed that the idiots who produced this Blu-ray version thought it would be acceptable to use the old-hat MPEG2 compression rather than a modern Hi-Def commpression format. The result is a fuzzy mess barely better than DVD. There is no excuse for this. If you can make an old old old movie like 2001 have perfect picture quality on transfer to HD formats then you can certainly do it with any other. Come on studios... Wake up!

The sound, however, is excellent with options of DTS HD Master 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1

My Verdict: Save your money, buy the DVD and upscale it.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Just bodys", 25 Feb 2009
