4.0 out of 5 stars Westwood...? Is that you..?!, 1 April 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The last time command and conquer was any good, lets face it, was when good ol' Westwood studios was in charge, before they were bought up by the EA juggernaught. Red Alert 3 goes back to the crazy weapons, crazy storyline and crazy dialogue. Theyve even thrown in some genuine Hollywood talent and some scantily clad girls, to sweeten what is already looking like a good deal, giving me the impression that someone at EA has been re-playing the old C+C titles, taking down notes and reporting back to the development team (something other game makers could take a lesson from [SEGA]) The PC version of this game isnt worth the disc its printed on as the spyware issues and incredible memory demands sour any gameplay experience, but the PS3 takes it all in its mighty stride, showing us brilliant detail, epic sound and crisp gameplay.
The game only misses out on the 5 stars, because it does take a while (an hour or two) to get used to the controls. And many people have complained about the lack of keyboard/mouse compatability, which is a moot point because if you need that to play the game, then you should stick to the PC version, regardless of its faults!

4.0 out of 5 stars it takes me back, 30 Mar 2009
By R. Barclay "PSN: AvatarIII" (Worthing, UK) - See all my reviews

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
having not played a CnC game since Yuri's Revenge, due to having an obsolete PC, this game is perfect for those old CnC fans that got a PS3 instead of upgrading their PC every year or so. everything about this game feels so right as a successor to RA2/YR in theme, style, and look. the graphics looks great, and the control system, although annoying at times (if you let go of R2 when using the control wheel it resets you back to the beginning regardless of how many sub menu's you have gone through, and sometimes deselecting units is a pain, to the point i regularly hit O a couple of times just to make sure i haven't got an errant unit selected), is easy to pick up and play without much practice, also, the sub commander feature is great, and often must be utilised, one mission i managed to complete with the sub commander alone, not even using my own units. some missions are frustrating, especially when unexpected objectives make themselves known (one soviet mission i though i had completed but then a whole second allied army showed themselves and i had pretty much depleted all the ore on the map by that point, i didn't last much longer), but you can always switch to a different faction's campaign, or try a skirmish.

overall i like this game a lot, and recommend itvto old CnC fans and new RTS players alike.

2.0 out of 5 stars Regret buying it, 20 Sep 2009

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
I used to love the Command and Conquer series, and I did not have a strategy game for the PS3, so I bought this game. I regret that decision now.

The graphics are pants. This is the PS3 for godsake, and yet this just looks like the same graphics from Red Alert 2.
The whole game feels cartoony and slightly stupid.
It really isn't easy to use the PS3 controller for this game, despite the effort.
This is virtually the same game from Red Alert 2, there's no real difference apart from some vaguely different units and another nation.
I would say this is a big step down from Generals.

Would not recommend buying this for more than 10 GBP.
