"... a more complete map to recovery from depression." --Irish Farmers Journal Irish County Living, Saturday, February 11, 2012

Product Description

My original book on depression, The CommonSense Guide to Depression, has sold more than 30,000 copies since it was first published. This is a new edition of that book. The new title reflects a change in my understanding of depression over the past ten years and also the development of a new approach to preventing the recurrence of depression, based on the practice of mindfulness. I believe that this new thinking on depression offers a more complete map for your recovery. This book shows you the practical steps you can take to lift your mood; helps you listen to what depression may be trying to teach you about your life; and gives you a way to be with yourself when you feel most vulnerable. It is possible for any human being to lose their way , but it is equally possible for any human being to find their way . I hope this book supports and strengthens your recovery by showing that you have the inner strength to come through depression. Tony Bates. While intended primarily as a guide to recovery for anyone who is experiencing depression, this book is also written with the relatives and friends of that person in mind, hoping they can make sense of what can be a difficult experience to grasp from the outside . Understanding the journey through depression by all who are affected can act as a bridge between people who feel isolated by depression and those who care about them.

Ready Reference 2 Nov 2003
By Budge Burgess TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
With depression likely to affect one in four people in the course of their lives, coping with the illness is a skill we could all learn. Depression is an illness; it is a survivable illness; it is one from which we can recover - though every year several thousand people commit suicide in Britain while troubled by it. A useful little pocket book to help you get a focus on what is happening and take realistic, practical steps to get help and overcome the trauma. Depression can be overcome, but you need to understand it and get appropriate help and support.
