if like me, you have found yourself becoming more and more upset by the degradation of the environment and human rights going on in today's society and are haunted by a feeling of impotence as to this i strongly recommend this book.

the authors lay out their approach in a theoretical way which is truly liberating before focussing on practical exercises to help us feel our pain for what is happening in the world and convert that into the caring power to address these problems.

this is a wonderful antidote to what is going on in our world and a warrior call for those who care about life on this earth

Quite a heavy read, as it deals with the psychological and spiritual transition at this point of change in the planet.
A good companion to a workshop, perhaps - maybe too much to just read alone?

Inspiring, universal truths about self, community and world. 4 Oct 1999
By Angela Sevin (markangela@value.net) - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Without having to consult a post-modern dictionary, Joanna Macy and co-author, Molly Young Brown give inspiring and heartfelt explanations and examples of their lifework: dealing with the roots of conscious and unconscious pain that we all feel with regards to ourselves, while bringing home the concept of our connectedness to this world. They point out the fallacy of basic assumptions that we can fix whatever problems we create (the fix-it mentality), as well as dealing with resulting issues of burn-out and stress by alternatively doing the "work that reconnects". The dynamic model set forth in this book recognizes the role of community and encourages us out of an antagonistic "us" versus "them" concept which tends to lead us towards short-term NIMBY (not in my backyard) solutions.

In the preface to the book, Joanna Macy writes, "THIS IS A GUIDEBOOK. It maps ways into the vitality and determination we each possess to take part in the healing of our world."

This book is literally life saving. 1 Oct 2009

As a collective, we are finally ready to read Macy's work. In this state of Blessed Unrest we are getting more aware of our own grief around the world we have created around the global industrial complex, Macy and Brown remind us of our authentic selves, and provide a road map for creating relationship strong enough to undo and generate life. Through the piece we (re)member that we are what we've been waiting for.

A Wonderful Resource 30 Oct 2011
By Amber Dahlin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This dear book is rich with group minglings, guided meditations, other exercises, and all of the theory to go with them. It's a great resource for anyone interested in or involved with mediating workshops, anyone that knows a group that's interested in moving beyond pain and sorry and connecting deeply with the earth and with each other, or anyone that's just interested in being inspired. I highly recommend it!
