2.0 out of 5 stars Rather lacking in the humour side of things 4 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read around 60% so far and find it rather hard going. Lots of facts and little bits of humour here and there, but isn't a book that I can read much of at a time. Perhaps as we get into the 20th century it may have more appeal, but the book is rather boring up to 1844.

4.0 out of 5 stars History Lover's Cheer 5 Mar 2012
By Brian - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Anyone with an understanding of US history and a decent sense of humor will find it very difficult to not inwardly chuckle and at times to actually laugh out loud!

The take on the foibles of the early discoverers (whose success was lasting as what the discovered tended to stay that way) to the founding of the US republic and beyond are filled with details upon which lightness of thought caused more than a nodding smile of approval!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea 21 July 2012
By Jetpack - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a history buff with at least some sense of humor, I had high hopes for this. The free Kindle edition is 2,622 locations long.

Unfortunately, I didn't find myself chuckling. I'm sure the humor would have worked better in past years. At this point, it was just boring and not funny.

Still, as the two 4 star reviews show, this might be your cup of tea, and it's free, so give it a shot.

Thought it was bill nye the science guy, but it is an older author who just so happens to have a nick name bill and last name Nye, but I guess in the end its my own fault for not doing the research.

Clumsy, Trivial and poorly written. A waste of time. I can't understand what the purpose was. I was very dissapointed.
