COMFORT FOOD DESCRIPTION:

Emily Vargas has been taken captive. As part of his conditioning methods, her captor refuses to speak to her, knowing how much she craves human contact. He's far too beautiful to be a monster. Combined with his lack of violence toward her, this has her walking a fine line at the edge of sanity. Told in the first person from Emily's perspective, Comfort Food is a tale of erotic surrender that explores what happens when all expectations of pleasure and pain are turned upside down, as whips become comfort and chicken soup becomes punishment.

DISCLAIMER:

This is not a story about consensual BDSM. This is a story about “actual” slavery. If reading erotica without safewords makes you uncomfortable, this is not the book for you. This is a work of fiction, and the author does not endorse or condone any behavior done to another human being without their consent.

This book contains BDSM elements, master/slave dynamics, dubious consent, psychological conditioning, and oral and anal play.

REVIEWS:

" . . . dark, provocative, and glaringly honest . . ." H. Turley, Reader

"Disturbing, twisted, and just plain weird . . . " Amy, GoodReads Reviewer

" . . . an intelligently written, well-researched and very erotic exploration of the extremity of power dynamics . . . It's refreshing to read someone brave enough to tackle erotic themes that are truly taboo and seldom published." - Remittance Girl, Reader and author of "Gaijin" and other works of erotica

"They are a match made in a twisted sort of hell. I don’t, as a rule, like erotica, but I’m likely to check out Ms. Thomas’ future work just to see how far she can push the envelope." - A Taste For Ebooks, Review Blog

" . . . beautifully written and exquisitely detailed . . . a brilliantly written book and I highly suggest it, if you’re up for the challenge." - mamakittyreviews.com

" . . . the most twisted form of psychological conditioning, I've ever read . . . will stick in your brain for days after you read it." - Kathleen Gresham, Reader

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfort Food, 6 Aug 2010

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Comfort Food (Kindle Edition)
Emily has been kidnapped, she has no idea where she is and very little hope of escape. Kept in an empty grey cell with nothing to do and not even a bed to sleep on she quickly becomes desperate for human contact - ANY kind of human contact. Although she is brought 3 meals a day (always chicken noodle soup) her captor refuses to answer her questions or even speak at all. Her world has been turned upside down and she will soon willingly submit to anything just to feel the comfort of his touch.

Comfort Food is like nothing I've ever read before but WOW is it a powerful read! Told in first person narrative by Emily you journey with her from the minute she wakes up tide to a chair and blindfolded. I loved her voice and it was scarily easy to imagine you were in her place. Given the situation she was in I'm not sure that anyone would have been able to handle things differently. The worst thing for Emily is that she can see what he is doing to her but she is powerless to resist.

The book does include scenes of BDSM which I confess isn't something I've read a lot of. It isn't a light hearted affair with what we would consider normal consent and there is no such thing as a safe word but Emily's captor doesn't do anything without her agreement. Emily can choose to say no at any time but then she is left alone in her empty grey cell with food passed silently through the door. Given the choice of nothingness or doing what her captor requests she finds herself accepting anything just to have his company and attention.

Although Comfort Food takes you on a dark and disturbing journey and isn't a book for the faint hearted it is an incredibly powerful story and one that I devoured in an afternoon. We've all heard stories of women who have been captured and held prisoner for years but it tends to be something that society tries not to think about and rarely discusses. It isn't something that should be pushed under the carpet though & I can't recommend reading this book strongly enough. I'm still thinking about the story days after I finished reading it and I know it will effect me for a long time to come. In my opinion that is the sign of a good story and if you're brave enough to give it a try I'm sure you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Dark Erotica, 6 Aug 2010
This review is from: Comfort Food (Kindle Edition)
Twenty four hours after reading this book i was still thinking about it, and still all i want to write is 'wow' Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas i can honestly say is a book that messed with my mind and dragged me into the story taking me through every emotion and yet i just want to say wow. wow.

This in no way an erotic romance story, there is no hearts or flowers, no moonlit walks, no whispered sweet nothings or even dirty talk. it is dark, disturbing, gritty, agony to read at times. But it is compelling and just as Emily was, i was thrust into the world of master and slave, the words coming alive from the page, i wanted to know more about Master and Emily, i was enthralled to read and read.

Emily with her major in Psychology knows all about the stockholm syndrome but her fear and need for any kind of human contact drives her on each day, her inner dialogue is fantastic in portraying her emotions, her need her agony her ability to reason for her survival.

There is very little dialogue from Emily, mostly it is her inner thoughts, all sex scenes told in the third party, and you get little to no dialogue point of view from Master yet everything he is the author conveys with a look to his eyes, a movement of his body, he doesn't show anger, he doesn't get violent but you feel the threat from him at every moment. he is disciplined in controlling Emily he knows she will do most anything for a moment of companionship, he knows when to punish when to reward, everything is a choice, she chooses wrong and Emily is back in what she calls the bad cell instead of the plush bedroom filled with all her favourite things.
It was actually surprising that i could feel anything for Master in the form of compassion, but i did. Two thirds in events take a different slant and you begin to understand him, you see why this man who is beautiful and strong and by societies standards a male women would throw themselves at, did the things he did. There is no sob back-story from him, what he does when he captures Emily is truly calculated, dark and evil. But yet i didn't feel hate for this character, i was engaged with him as much as i was with Emily.

This is a beautifully written story, the author paints vivid images that stays with you, from the chicken noodle soup, to Emily getting her period, to the erotic sex scenes, to the despair emptiness inside Emily. The relationship between Master and Emily pushed all boundaries for them both, i cheered Emily, i was anxious for her and felt happy as her strength and courage fought through.
I went into this book thinking how could there be a happily ever after, and in the traditional sense no this book doesn't give you that, it showcases a relationship between Master and Slave, about pushing boundaries to the their limits to free inner desires.

I can't convey loudly enough just how brilliant this book is, it's not for the faint hearted, it's not for someone who likes a little bondage play in their stories, what you do get is an exceptionally written take of a master conditioning his slave and ultimately giving her what she never knew she wanted. It's a dark erotica and truly Kitty Thomas pushes at your thoughts and emotions with every turn of the page. I rarely give any book full marks, unless they touch me in a way that stays with me long after i've put the book down, if the characters and actions are still with me the following day then top marks has to be given.

A compelling read that will stay with me forever. TOP MARKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible writing, 13 Aug 2011
This review is from: Comfort Food (Kindle Edition)
I cannot add much to the previous reviews. This is an amazing, thought provoking book; excellently written. I have read many books containing BDSM but none have affected me as this has. In my opinion it a new classic of the genre. I read and destroyed the story of "O". I hated it and cannot understand the hype surrounding it. Comfort food, however, I will read again and again.
