Book Description

31 Oct 2001
Everyone has their own favourite comfort food. It may be something as simple as thickly sliced hot toast, a tub of creamy ice cream or a fabulous rich chocolate dessert, but there's no denying the pleasure good food can bring. Truly comforting food is as enjoyable to prepare and cook as it is to eat. This book features fabulous ingredients such as aromatic frazzled pancetta with scrambled eggs sitting atop a croissant, or luscious hot fudge sauce poured over a warm brioche filled with ice cream. So, curl up on the sofa with a big bowl of rich, warming soup and tortilla chips, or delay the day's chores with some really dark, sticky gingerbread, and resist going to bed until the last of a freshly baked pudding is eaten. Whatever your mood, these recipes aim to provide scope and ideas for truly indulgent eating.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book 26 July 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book about 2 months ago, and although I'd not heard of the author, Maxine Clark, I still had to have the book, as the recipes sounded so wonderful, and they really are comfort food.
The carrot and poppyseed cake is really lovely, and my husbands favourite, (even better than Delias) and the raspberry and rhubarb crumble is divine, and I usually get asked for a copy of the recipe, when I make it.
I now intend to buy more books from this author...just can't decide which one to get next.
I must say though, that this book isn't one for dieters, and I'm sure that you could gain a pound or two, just by looking at the pictures, but try it, you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars comfort food by Maxine Clark 2 Jan 2008
By Charlotta Williams Bengtsson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Lovely book with all the recipes for a long, slow sunday brunch with just your family or a bunch of friends! Wonderful photos and classic dishes with a modern touch. My kids are all for the Tootie's pancakes and I love the Steak sandwich. A cookbook for those who enjoy to cook.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun to look at 5 Aug 2006
By Wendy Schroeder - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I love the photos in it. There are some that would be comfort food like gooey "Butterscotch Nut Muffins" and "Deep Dish Apple Pie". But too many are highbrow recipes like "Fabulous Fish Pie with Saffron and Dill Mash" and "Lamb Shanks and Apricots with Minted Sesame Couscous". The last two would be something I would have at a nice restaurant (I'm more of a Black Eye Pea or Red Lobster type of person). My idea of comfort food is mash potatoes and gravy, chicken noodle soup or mac and cheese. Or if wanting something sweet a hot fudge sundae, cheesecake or even oatmeal with lots of milk and honey. Still, it was fun to look at but I wouldn't buy it for $30.
