5.0 out of 5 stars A little bit like Marmite........... 7 Aug 2012
I can totally accept that this DVD is very much an aquired taste!

On one level it depends on how you feel about William Shatner; I personally love the man. I have been a huge fan of Star Trek since childhood, and as I have gotten older this has led to me exploring other work by him. I have enjoyed his books, other televison appearances, and even his music (well some of it!); I genuinely feel that William Shatner is an immensely talented man, he has a razor sharp wit and is far more intelligent and talented than I feel many people appreciate. I know he can sometimes be a tad 'corny', his acting has been decribed as a bit 'wooden' (on ocassion rightly so, but clearly these critics haven't seen his work in Boston Legal) and yes, the aforementioned 'music' career has at times been just so bad it was actually embarassing!

On another level it depends on how you feel about crass, rude and even vulgar humour; for do not be mistaken, this DVD most certainly offers all of this to quite an extreme level, the 18 rating being very much justified!

I personally have no problem with any of the above, so the combination of William Shatner and vulgar humour fills me with joy!

The show itself, and I am offering this description for those unfamiliar with the concept of 'Roasts', consists of William Shatner sitting on a stage in front of a large live audience partially made up of other celebrities , a succession of friends, colleagues and comedians then proceed to provide increasingly insulting personal and rude comments, all the while the 'Guest of Honour' (on this ocassion William Shatner) has to sit there and shut up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! 26 Feb 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I saw the unedited, uncut version of this some time ago as it was released first in the US. It actually made me cry with laughter. Poor old William Shatner gets a verbal seeing too by all and sundry.

As a self confessed Trekkie I had to get this, as lots of the jokes revolve around his time as the legendary Captain Kirk. George Takaei is especially cruel but Bill takes it in good humour.

Its nice to see that pure unadulterated humour is still alive and kicking. If you are easily offended though and dont like swearing in the extreme and vulgarity at its best dont watch it, buy it or go near it, its not for the faint hearted. It makes Bernard Manning look like a quoir boy!

Fred Willard
George Takei
Lisa Lampanelli
Farrah Fawcett

Plus the id-driven Artie Lange and Andy Dick to add a roughhewn edge. Let's face it: You need these guys -- it's not a party until something gets broken.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd best roast after Pamela Anderson 13 Oct 2011
I watched this when it first aired on tv in Canada, laughed hysterically , pokes fun at his acting career, yes there is bad language in it, but so what. You go anywhere now you will hear bad language .
For people who dont know William was born in Montreal, Canada not in the USA.
The only roast I have seen that's better than this is the Pamela Anderson one.
