Product Description

CD Description

* Ace presents the soul, R&B and blues worlds' take on the music and lyrics of two young men from Liverpool, whose work as both songwriters and group members completely changed the way the world looked at popular music.

* The songs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney were frequently covered in all fields of music. It was inevitable that many of the best covers would emerge from a genre of popular music that was so important to all four Beatles.

* "Come Together" presents a cross-section of Lennon & McCartney covers from artists as diverse as hard-core bluesman Lowell Fulson and supreme exponents of "sweet soul", the Moments, via such stellar names as Al Green, Chubby Checker, Little Richard, Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin.

* The range of repertoire covers virtually the entire recording and songwriting career of Lennon & McCartney, and embraces both their first big US hit `I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and their last, `The Long And Winding Road'. Many of the inclusions will possibly come as complete surprises even to those who think they know their Beatles covers inside out.

* This is a collection that is essential for both serious soul collectors and the still-vast legion of admirers that simply have to have every note of music associated with any of the Beatles.

4.0 out of 5 stars I disagree with the last review of this album! 10 Oct 2011
I disagree strongly with the person who last reviewed this album!!!
First of all, the Beatles are the greatest and most accomplished rock group in musical history. John Lennon and Paul Mccartney were an exceptional songwriting team and wrote some of the best pop songs in rock history during the lifespan of the group. The band also had two extraordinary singers, John Lennon and Paul Mccartney, and George Harrison, as well, was no slouch as a singer or a songwriter. So, the point that I"m making, is how can you possibly compete with the Beatle versions if you are a recording artist? That's a very tall order to achieve.
Nonetheless, many of the artists on this album deliver good, very good, and outstanding performances. There are wonderful versions to Beatles songs done by Aretha Franklin, Maxine Brown, Mary wells, Gene Chandler, The Vibrations, Fats Domino, just to name a few.
Not every song on this album is a masterpiece, but that is okay; when I buy an Ace cd, I'm very happy if 15 to 17 songs are good out of 24. That means that a few might be mediocre and a few duds, but that is okay.
I really like between 15 and 17 songs on this album, so I feel that I've gotten really good value for my money, and I give this album 3.5 to 4 stars out of five.

2.0 out of 5 stars Soul but a bit sad compared with the originals 5 Oct 2011
Except the work of Lowell Fulson , Maxine Brown , Little Richard and Aretha , there was no need for these covers .

4.0 out of 5 stars Different twist on the Beatles catalogue 26 Nov 2011
By Bernardo Quiroga Gomez - Published on Amazon.com
A tastefully done collection of Beatles classics as recorded by some of the greatest funky/soul artists. Chubby Checker, Little Richard and Fats Domino all deliver fantastic renditions (my favorites on the album). A few of the other names I wasn't totally aware of. Aretha Franklin and Billy Preston also bring their own to the table. A few versions might be a bit less memorable (the ghettofied Rocky Raccoon tends to drag quite a bit), but as a whole the collection has been very enjoyable. I say this as a life-long Beatles fan. I loved it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Haven't heard, but similar idea as an earlier album 11 May 2012
By Yak - Published on Amazon.com
Not a review but a bit of info: This seems a lot like Glass Onion: Songs Of The Beatles From The Atlantic & Warner Jazz Vaults. The two albums only hav four songs in common. I'd never heard of either one until just now. For those who've heard them, any thoughts on the pros and cons of either?
