The remixing & general 'tinkering about' with the Deep Purple albums continues with the 35th Anniversary of Come Taste The Band..and this one is good as the whole of the album gets a remaster and a remix with 3 bonus tracks added in.
The 2010 digital remastering clears up the original (and after 35 years you would expect so) but the Kevin Shirley remixes are the gems on this release for me.
Having just downloaded it, I sat there with a notepaper and wrote down my first impressions - which, after listening to the orignal for the last 35 years, I thought was the way to go (as I am no expert)
Comin'Home - the bass chugs along superbly and the fade out has been replaced (like many tracks on the album) with a dead stop just when the Bolin solo is starting to get good.
Lady Luck - cleaned up
Gettin' Tighter - the dead stop instead of the fade doesn't seem to suit it but you do get an extra minute of lead out chorus/guitars though.
Dealer - positively growls away at you now, seems heavier and stops dead.
I Need Love - the remix has changed what was a 'filler-type' track into the real deal now with a vocal & guitar trade off style, again stops dead but it seems to suit this one with the extra soloing.
You Keep On Moving - swapped places with Drifter for some reason in the line up, seems like the bass and drums are bought up in the mix & and is less muddy for a quieter track
Love Child - is now the heavy song that I thought is was originally meant to be
This Time Around - cleaned up
Owed to G - 6 second gap between This Time Around makes it a track of its own
Drifter - same as Love Child and the new place in the line up leaves you wanting more....which you now get
Always The Same In LA - Where has this been for 35 years? this seems like a 'work-in-progress' as it is keybords & bass driven - not a lot of Bolin in it but a good keyboard solo
Bolin'Paice Jam - for Bolin fans skip straight to this to re-afirm your belief (if you ever needed to!) again, where has this been for 35 years? loose funky jazz jam...and very 1970's and some of the chops/riffs seeming familiar on the CTTB record & some on other Bolin material...and you get 6 minutes of it!
I hope this helps you all!!!!
