"Come Out Tonight", as you can see from the synopsis has an intruiging basis...a boyfriend nips around the corner late at night for some condoms..but he doesn't come back. The first half of the book is as tight and interesting as anything the author has produced, but the second half descends into a plotline that would shame most teeny-slasher films. People begin to act outrageously against character and the villain of the piece becomes increasingly more cartoonish as the book progresses to its suitably grisly climax. Laymon's excellent, all-action writing style flows as smoothly as ever which is the main saving grace of the book. In less able hands the plot might easily have dragged this one down to a one or two star rating. Laymon at his best is one of the outstanding horror writers around but he seems to have lost interest in this one half-way through.

This novel is very similair to all other Laymon novels. Pretty, young girls getting attacked, raped, blah-de-blah-de-blah, and still managing to survive! Having said that, this has an excellent storyline and does manage to get the reader emotionally involved. Some good twists, lots of parts that make you go "yuck!" and, as usual, some really weird characters (i.e Fran, who enjoyed being raped? ) but hey!, that's Richard Laymon for you! This novel is more of a creepy one than a scary one (if you know what I mean) but nevertheless, it's still a good read and not just for Laymon fans.

Standard Laymon-Fare. Not bad, if you are a fan.
If you are a Laymon fan already this book is going to be a fun read. However, it really doesn't do anything new and original. Read more
