Album of the Year...this will take some beating!!!!!!, 22 May 2008
Brigades first album "Lights" was a big highlight of 2006. Along with Fightstar's "Grand Unification" it was the best record of the year without question. "Lights" was an incredible record, full of stomping guitar riffs, catchy chrouses, melodic middle eights and compelling brilliant vocal work from Will Simpson, it should have easily seen Brigade propelled into the top heights of the rock world. Unfourtunatley for Brigade, music lovers these days tend to apperciate bands with different offerings and the band saw a fanbase grow but nowhere near as to what was deserved!
After the exit of Fimm from the drumkit and a change of label from Mighty Atom to Caned & Able, Come Morning We Fight emerged with new drummer Andrew Kearton. After nearly two years Brigade are back and lets face it in style!
This record is a masterpiece simple as.
Having been a Brigade fan since the realse of the "Made to Wreck E.P" in 05 and seen them on various occasions live i was eager to see what awaited. On first listen "Come Morning We Fight" straight away hit me as an incredible record.
From the opening of the furious fantastic "What Are You Waiting For" to the end of the closing lines of "Boundaries" 53 mintues later with Guillotine B-side "Shortcuts and Long Delays" middle eight, i emerged with a huge grin on my face. The album was a success. First single "Pilot" should have leapt up the charts with its catchy stop start riff and delightful chorus but unforutunatley did not. "Together Apart" and "Stunning" both tread on the heels of Pop but both emerge as pure rock songs with their conclusion. "What Are Yopu Waiting For","Res Head" and "Slow Dives and Alibies" are pure Brigade. Fast aggressive powerful distorted riffs, with mighty choruses and excellent basslines (in my book the highlights of the album)would fit on Lights without a hitch.
Considering myself a real devoted fan i have marked each song out of 10:
What Are You Waiting For - Fast, mega megalithic rock song! Imense verse riff, brilliant shouty chorus metals bands would be proud of and a beautiful catchy middle 8 (vocals and riff). A pure highlight of what Brigade have to offer. Easy contender for best song on album. 10/10
Pilot - Brilliant single. Clever stop start riffage by James Plant and a lovely phasing chorus. The second verse guitar riff over the bassline is pure Brigade. 9/10
Together Apart - Epic song. Treading on the heels of Pop this song shows an other side of what Brigade have to offer, but at the same time you know its still them! Will's vocal work is pure brilliance in this song, his voice offers a wide variety and this song shows how high quality a frontman he is. A song which has to be one of the nicest you will ever hear. 10/10
Res Head - The Zombie Song! Excellent bass work from Naoto Hori, after a storming intro from the drums of Andrew Kearton. Pure Brigade riffage
with onceagain a mighty chorus with clever lyrical work and a nice line highlighting the name of the album! "Oh if i deserve this sleep now, Come morning we fight"! You have to love it. 10/10
Stunning - Onceagain a leap back to the Pop side of Rock after such a stormy previous song. However yet again its pulled off flawlessly by such a clever band. Catchy song throughout with a nice guitar solo showing another of Brigades qualities they have on offer. A very good song. 8.5/10
Slow Dives and Alibies - Has to be the best song on the record and a contender for best Brigade song to date. Pure highest quality basswork intro from Naoto, followed by a tremendous shared vocal verse by James and Will with an imense fast guiatr riff. The chorus just takes the song to an even higher level with its amazing vocals, although Will told me himself "it's bloody hard to sing". The second verse and Middle Eight continue the song on its perfect ride and the outro oncemore displays the powerful might of Brigade as a complete band. 10/10
Four Kids To A Glockenspiel - A masterpiece in the making is the only description to suit this song. Without a doubt the softest song to date written by the band. Clever acoustic guitars and a lovely introduction of orchastreal strings are a delightful addition to the songs chorus and climax with its piano work. Great vocal work onceagain by Will and as a whole effort this song is experimental music at its greatest. Very similar to "the hits the scrapes" in parts, the song still grasps a worthy album place. 10/10
Come Morning We Fight - Excellent Instrumental. Song doesn't really take off anywhere but as demonstarted by the band upon tour it would be a great introduction. Makes me wonder why it wasn't chosen as the first track, but is still a great intermission. 8/10
Shortcuts - Brilliant rework of the fantastic Guillotine B-Side "Shortcuts and Long Delays" but much faster and catchier. Free to download as a preview of what the album was to offer upon relase, in justice they couldn't have picked a better song to display the bands potential at a take on getting somewhere in todays difficult scene. Great Song. 9/10
Vice To Versa - Quality guitar intros followed by a heavy stompy riff and a very quiet opening verse. Brilliant drumwork here by Andrew Kearton. The prechorus and chrous make the song a welcome addition to the great highlights of the album. Great middle eight too with very well worked rock. One of my personal top 5 on the record. 9/10
Asinine - A very great song showing the heavier side of the band with its intro and chorus. The verse do after a while make the song as little dreary, but to be fair it still is a great song with some well thought out vocal holds by Will. The outro makes up the song to a great heavy climax. 8/10
Sink, Sink, Swim - Great catchy song from start to finish. The riff works well with the vocals and makes up a classy chorus. Impressive middle eight and a good conclusion. Still a good offer to the album. 8/10
Boundaries - Onceagain a beautfiul song. Catchy a note at a time intro followed by a brilliant heavy guiatr riff. Great chorus and the songs builds up to a brilliant climax.....or so we think. The end of the song after 3 minutes of blank nothingness bring in a classy end to the album. Shouty vocals and great build up oncemore the the almighty "Shortcuts and long delays, and Shortcuts are my mistake" but this time its the original bassline. Brilliant end to an epic album. 10/10
This album has proven to me and many others that Brigade are ready to take on the world. The albums shows such that the band are real musicians and deserve to be up there. A tremendous follow up to Lights, Brigade deserve it all.
If for some reason you can't get hold of this album. Just get a hold of these songs and you'll know you have to then buy this record:
What Are You Waiting For,
Together Apart,
Res Head,
Slow Dives and Alibies,
Shortcuts,
Vice to Versa.
Brigade have proved with this record they are mature enough to deal with anything. It just a matter of time before they emerge to the top. If the next record stands up alongside this and the previous then its just common fact Brigade are the greatest Rock band around.

Album of 2008, 22 Aug 2008
The year 2008 has been a worry with great British bands disappearing ie Reuben and Hell Is For Heroes, but hooray Brigade take on the mantle of great white hopes, with a masterly work. One only hopes they get the breaks the likes of Reuben etc didnt and sell shed loads, and dont just get tagged as Best Under-rated band.
If you've not heard Brigade before, just buy the album, you wont be disappointed, and you'll fall in love with a band at the top of their craft. Whats more me and my family know Will and James through going to their Gigs in Scotland ( 8 times so far), and they are such down to earth genuine guys doing it for the art and keeping it real, they deserve success.
I implore lovers of Rock riffage, support this truly great band, and dont waste money on other over-hyped inferior foreign rubbish and irritating UK indie bands ( ie Scouting for Girls , The Ting Tings , The Fratellis et al.
Check out the Slow Dives & Alibis it'll run round your head for ever.
After this go buy Lights by Brigade xxxx

Better than Lights? Yes!, 30 May 2008
Been a massive Brigade fan now since I first heard 'Lights' which was a masterpiece, however with this album I feel they have taken their songwriting up to another level. Lyrically and musically this album is simply superb! I didn't think they could beat 'Lights', but this album is simply awesome. You have to hear it to believe it!
My current favs are 'Together Apart' (amazing chorus!!), 'Res Head', 'What Are You Waiting For?' and the beautiful ballad 'Four Kids To A Glockenspiel'. I personally feel that the single 'Pilot' is one of the weaker tracks, but certaintly not a poor track, just not as keen on it as I am the other badboys!
Brigade are one of the finest British bands around today and this is the best album I have heard this year. If you appreciate good rock bands like Fightstar, Reuben, Biffy Clyro, Fighting With Wire, HIFH, Muse etc.. then get this album! You won't be disappointed! 5/5
