Classic Real Life American Adventure 22 Aug. 2013

Come Fly with Me
James Wood

Returning from the Korean War, James Wood found himself with a unique set of skills in high demand, helicopter piloting. In Come Fly with Me, Wood recounts some of his most exciting adventures as a helicopter pilot. Reading about Wood's life from a rural Oklahoma town to flying for a geological research team in Alaska, certainly is an adventure, but the ability to "meet" Wood himself is perhaps the biggest treat of the work. Wood's voice is one of pure down home Americana that cannot be faked, but is sadly not as prevalent as it once was. Although he is an educated man, he has not lost the humility and work ethic that can make America great. The author's voice welcomes readers into his world, almost as if you were sitting down over his kitchen table. By the end of the book, readers will look at Wood as a dear friend and wise elder. As we move further and further into a global world, we would all do well to read a story like Wood's to ground us in the things that are truly wondrous and important in life.
