Most Helpful Customer Reviews

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful By Barry McCanna TOP 500 REVIEWER on 18 Oct. 2008
Format: Audio CD
Roberto Inglez served his apprenticeship with Edmundo Ros, then took a rumba band into the Savoy. During his tenure he recorded some seventy records, twenty-five of which have been gathered together for this his first outing on Vocalion. In his liner note Arthur Jackson speculates whether his one-finger piano style, which is set against a lush orchestral background, was borrowed from Gordon Jenkins, but I think Eddie Duchin is the more likely suspect. These late Parlophone 78s have been expertly transferred by Mike Dutton, and the mix of Latin-American compositions with American songbook standards and light orchestral pieces is delightful.
