This is simply one of the most amazing films Altman ever made. The cast works beautifully together, the script is quite extraordinary and I would defy anyone not to have tears in their eyes at the denuement. I've played it so many times that my VHS has stopped working. I NEED it on DVD, please!

i think this film has a great plot with an even greater cast. the video quality is quite poor, however the twisting tale and quirky characters make up for this. Any true Cher fans must have movie, as she plays Sissy beautifully. Also, karen Black and Sandy Dennis portray their characters excellently. A rare and well worth buy!

This is an amazing piece of theatrical perfection. The story is so bittersweet, so true and the actors are so good that you wish you were in NYC in 1982, for the Broadway version of the movie(it was originally performed on stage). The emporio is the women world, it's a universe that encloses past, present and future, the places where six lives meet and share their secrets. This movie creates a sense of intimacy and magic you can hardly find elsewhere. Cher and the other actress are simply extraordinary.

Rated this one star - because I had to enter a value. I am also amazed that this classic is not on DVD. Is this going to happen? If so, WHEN?

A Classic 80s Theater Piece Directed by Robert Altman -- Finally Available Again 19 Sept. 2014
By KRabin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Blu-ray
I'm SO glad to hear this is finally coming out on something other than VHS. This was a wonderful play that Robert Altman directed on-stage with the same cast -- on Broadway. It was well-loved at the time -- especially the star power! It may have dated a little in the intervening years, but it is wonderful to know we'll have those performances on film. While the play was having its run, Altman arranged to direct the film -- in 16mm! -- in a studio in Manhattan, so in the evenings, the cast would head over there and they filmed it on what was basically a recreation of the stage set on Broadway. So this is a unique look behind the scenes at an interesting play about women who have a lot in common -- and a few things NOT in common -- and is fun, funky, and ultimately heartwarming. Looking forward to the release!
5 STAR AS A PLAY & 5 STAR AS A MOVIE 19 Sept. 2014

MUST SEE LITTLE GEM.
Didn't get much attention.
Cost $800,000 to make.
Made: $2,300,000 total world receipts
We've lost Karen/Sandy and Director Altman.
BUT CHER..always shines. She just puts a smile on your face, be it in a movie or see her live in concert (D2K Tour '14).
So its worth purchasing / streaming or renting.
