Biography

Porcupine Tree is unquestionably one of the most difficult-to-categorize and innovative bands working today.

The band is fronted by Steven Wilson, who also is well-known for his work producing other artists, from Swedish progressive metal group Opeth, to Norwegian chanteuse Anja Garbarek. He also has several other projects, including No-Man, Bass Communion, and ... Read more in Amazon's Porcupine Tree Store

Product Description

CD Description

Porcupine Tree started out as an in-joke between Steven Wilson and a friend (early recordings were purportedly the back catalogue of a fictional seventies supergroup ‘The Porcupine Tree’ that Wilson created) Almost 20 years later the group is a hundred thousand selling band, selling out arenas across the world. Throughout this period they have evolved from a psychedelic solo studio project to one of the most revered live bands on the planet, releasing 11 critically acclaimed albums, a host of singles and various re-mastered and re-mixed reissues. Riding high on the success of their 1996 album ’Signify’, the band embarked on an extensive European tour. Three gigs in Rome from this tour were captured in stunning digital clarity to make up their first official live album, Coma Divine. This special edition contains bonus tracks not included on the original 1997 release, including ‘Radioactive Toy’ and ‘Up The Downstair’ along with the pick of the band’s first four albums. ‘essential listening.’ Metal Hammer Tracks: DISC ONE; BORNLIVEDIEINTRO / SIGNIFY / WAITING PHASE ONE / WAITING PHASE TWO / THE SKY MOVES SIDEWAYS / DISLOCATED DAY / THE SLEEP OF NO DREAMING / MOONLOOP DISC TWO; UP THE DOWNSTAIR / THE MOON TOUCHES YOUR SHOULDER / ALWAYS NEVER / IS…NOT / RADIOACTIVE TOY / NOT BEAUTIFUL ANYMORE

5.0 out of 5 stars Coma Divine: Porcupine Tree. 8 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This Album was recommended to me by the avid Porcupine Tree Follower, Daniel McCarthur. Coma Divine is such a great album to listen to when its dark and quite and nobodys around, you really feel like you are there on stage with the band. I also bought Signify, this is also a great album but Coma Divine takes the biscuit. Anyone out there thinking of buying one of their albums should perhaps buy Coma Divine. Its a live album, and is a rare instance in a music album where all the tracks are excellant.

By Dr. D. B. Sillars VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
One of the best live albums from a modern rock group has been made even better with this remastered and expanded issue. Porcupine Tree are simply one of the best rock groups around. Their last studio album, “In Absentia” for Lava Records perfectly showcased the different styles which Steven Wilson has now brought to the group after many years of producing distinctive albums for the independent Delerium label. It’s for that label that Wilson is now upgrading his back catalogue, of which “Coma Divine” is the first release, though to date another two have been made available. This live album has now been expanded to a double CD with the addition of four extra tracks. Both the recording quality and band performance are exceptional. Live, Porcupine Tree are a very tight unit, though Wilson likes the band to vary the arrangements of the material to keep things fresh. Particularly impressive on this disc is keyboard player Richard Barbieri. On studio albums he mainly adds layers of atmospheric synths to the proceedings, but live he really comes to the fore with some great playing, adding new dimensions of sound to each track. Most of the material comes from the “Signify” album as the band were touring that during the recording of this live album. But there are some great energetic live interpretations of earlier material such as “Radioctive Toy” and “The Sky Moves Sideways”. This is a fantastic live document from a wonderful band that has so much to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Porcupine Tree at their best : LIVE 3 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Having carefully listened to all the CDs by Porcupine Tree since signify (Signify, Coma Divine, Stupid Dream and Lightbulb sun) I have to say that this CD stands out not for having the best material (their two latest CDs are well worth their money since the band has progressed more musically) but the best feeling - the best atmosphere. It is truly magic. Even if the CD is truly amazing it does not do the band justice whereas their live performance are concerned . See them live and you WON'T forget them for a long - long time.

Until then just buy this CD and play it loud - with the lights off ! -
