Book Description

Over GBP210 million were spent on anti-aging cream in Britain last year, with the British facial skincare market being worth just over GBP545 million, accounting for just 15% of the market. Mintel expects this market to increase by 24% in the next five years, to be worth a total of GBP0.7 billion. Sales of a new anti-aging cream by No7, which costs GBP16.75, have soared by almost 2,000% since being praised by BBC's Horizon programme in March of this year, with Boots having to produce 24,000 bottles a day to meet demand.

I sent for this book, thinking I would be able to "diagnose" my own colours successfully from it, and also that it would help me with style dilemmas as I got older (I am mid fifties). Firtly, I found it incredibly difficult to say which group I feel into, as I had aspects of several. Secondly, I felt the examples, and especially some of the text, made me feel older than ever. I am just a bit older, not dead, after all, and most of the examples were very safe and boring without much sharpness or real sense of style.

In the end, I went, with some intrepidation, to a CMB consultant, one who was the master training from the organisation. This was worth every penny and emmensely enjoyable as well. I realised too, unless you have very straight forward colouring, its too difficult to do yourself from a book, nuances of skin tone and colour spots in the eyes all have an effect, and you really need someone who can see all this in excellant light and try things on you as well. I was not in the category I expected, but now it all makes sense, I know now what haircolour to go towards, makeup colours, and accessories as well as clothes.

Now I can go back to other CMB books and know which catergory I'm following. I wouldn't recommend this particular book to older women, it might make you feel more depressed, go to some of the other CMB ones instead, or even better "Fab after Fifty" written by a British colour advisor who also does CMB at master level, this is sharp writing and quite witty as well. Best of all, use in conjunction with a trained CMB advisor, the cost is little more than one decent cut and colour at a good salon and the effect lasts much longer.

This book was disappointingly thin - a coffee table book with too many pictures and too little text with explanations. I don't feel I learned much from it and I don't think it fulfils its promises. It highlights one of the dangers of buying over the internet which is that you buy the book "blind", sometimes it doesn't work out unfornutately.

This is an inspirational book whether in your 40s, 50s or 60s. I had the colour me Beautiful book years ago and lent it to someone and never got it back but Colour me Younger is even better, up to date and caters for every shape, size, colouring whether natural or enhanced. I recommend this book.

I fully endorse everything written by the previous reviewer. Pat Henshaw and Veronique Henderson have done it again. Another great book with lots of guidance on style, colour, make-up, hair and accessories to make us all look younger and who's going to argue with that! Practical suggestions in an easy-to-follow colourful format. Enjoyable and totally absorbing. Read this and you can't go wrong - a style bible for every woman over 40.

Even though I am not old enough (yet) for all of the useful advice in this book, I am sort-of in the middle of the traget range, so was delighted to find real-world examples, not yet more divinely enhanced models. I sat and read it from cover to cover, which I had not expected. But for my own personal use, the best pages are 75-76, and the tips for under-eye bags and droopy eyes really do work! Not just on me, but also on my friends. I don't think I look my age, but little gems like this will help to keep those tell-tale signs hidden longer.

Another great book from colour me beautiful! Although aimed at women of 40 plus there is a lot of useful colour and style information in here to help any woman. This new book is almost better than the original colour me confident. Lots of lovely colour photographic examples and great easy to read tips. Showing you how to wear colour, make-up, glasses, clothes and hair colour too!

Again check out your local colour me beautiful stylist for a personalised consultation to get the best advice for you - especially regarding which colours bring out the best in you!

A quick half hour flip through here. Everything is covered in a superficial way, with nothing new said, very spread out photos and little text. Grey hair is barely mentioned...! As usual, I was unable to identify myself in their colour groupings. Borrow from the library if you want a look.

I have a copy of the original Colour Me Beautiful (living in hopes) book, which I have dipped in and out of over the years, and found to be informative regarding colours that suit you etc. When the new batch of Colour Me books started arriving, I didn't really bother with them. However I have bought a couple of the newer ones, and I think this one is very good. O.K. some of the clothes may not be your style, but they are adaptable, and I have found the colour analysis true and for the most part spot on. At least when I wear my colours people always say I look good, so I must be doing something right. At 65 I need all the help I can get, and this is a great little book to pick up and put down when you feel like it. Also, it makes shopping for clothes so much easier when you have some idea of which colours suit you best. That's not to say you can't wear black if you feel like it, but you get an idea of what is most flattering. I would say buy it, especially if you can get a used copy, which mine is. Living in France, it took me a while to get used to the styles out here, but knowing my colours has made it a lot easier.
