I first read this book 15 years ago and have been a fan ever since. Once I found out which shades of colour best suited my natural hair and skin tones, I no longer made unsuitable "mistake buys" of clothing or accessories. In this book you'll find out which colours make the most of your beautiful, natural self, and why a few colours look great on other people but don't do you justice. The theory is that we all have different degrees of warmness or coolness, lightness or darkness in our skin tones, and certain colours will go best with our natural colouring. You'll find out whether you're a Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter type. Spring is warm and light, Summer is cool and light, Autumn is dark and warm and Winter is dark and cool. You'll also learn how to make the most of your body shape by dressing cleverly. This book will cheer you up; it's full of sensible advice. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book that covers all aspects of assessing your own natural hair and skin tones and thereby choosing the most appropriate colours in clothes, makeup and hair colour, if wanted. It is written in a way that is easy to follow, although it is sometimes difficult to actually assess your own colour just by the written descriptions of skin tone. Therein lies the difficulty of using a book, with inherent colour printing limitations, to make such a practical assessment. However every effort appears to be made to assist the reader, with detailed descritions. The book also covers other aspects of choosing clothes to suit face and body shape, how to wear makeup to suit individual face shapes, and choosing accessories. It gives practical advice and guidance with charts and pictures. Although slightly dated this book gives an excellent introduction to the idea of colours enhancing natural aspects of individuals' own colouring.

OK, this book was my Beauty Bible during the 80s. I went over it so many times that I've nearly memorised it! The tips on color are perfect but the tips on style are definately outdated -were perfect for the 80s though. Maybe this book should be redone. The pictures and style are really screaming for a makeover.
