Format:Hardcover
I've wanted to dye my own fabrics for ages but have always been slightly daunted by the instructions given in other books. This book makes it seem easy and has given me the confidence to try out several of the techniques described. This is already saving me a fortune as it's much cheaper to buy plain fabrics and threads and dye my own - and I can create the colours and textures that I want rather than make do with what's available.

The book ranges from very simple techniques to the more advanced - including space dyeing, tie-dyeing, printing and use of resists. I easily tracked down the more specialised materials using the suppliers listed in the back of the book (much of what you need can be found in the local supermarket).

Note that the book only deals with cold water dyes.

Colour on Cloth 6 Mar 2005
Format:Hardcover
This book is a fantastic resource book. Full of beautiful pictures and tons of useful wasy to dye cloth. It looks at the types of dyes suitable for use and how to prepare them in simple step by step instructions. It also covers different types of fabrics to try and provides hundreds of different techniques to use. I believe this is an ESSENTIAL book for anyone interested in colour. An excellent teaching guide.Highly recommended.

(D)Eye Candy! 3 April 2007
Format:Hardcover
I am a complete lay person as far as dyeing fabric is concerned. I almost sent this book back as it did seem very technical, referring to lots of chemicals and plenty of Health & Safety advice. But on closer inspection there are sections on some simple stuff that I can try just to begin with, for instance traditional tie dyeing or using flour and water as a resist (similar to using wax in batik). As for (d)eye candy, this book has it by the bucket full, the sumptuous colours have convinced me to keep the book and give it a go.
