For me Colors was (and still is) the most exciting album I have ever heard.
For those of you who have already purchased Colors, loved it, and are now wondering how its complexity translates live, the answer is: mind-blowing. That being said this is not a band that fly about onstage (a la The Dillinger Escape Plan) this is a band however that put their music forward in a very powerful, passionate manner and watching this musicianship in action is simply exciting enough. The tightness of the band as a whole is second to none. There are no mistakes that I could REALLY notice and all the songs were delivered almost exactly to the same standards as the CD. White Walls (probably Colors most powerful and epic track) is mind blowing live and the previous 6 tracks also shine very brightly. The older material played after the 'Colors' set is also tight as ever and it was extremely good to see Backwards Marathon, Shevenal Cut a Flip and of course Selkes as usual. This is a very good addition to any fans catalogue and I do recommend you buy this. Of course if you haven't purchased the studio recording then read on:
Colors is a blending of sounds and musical textures that create an exciting and, at all times, gripping, progressive masterpiece from the very beginning of Foam Born, Pt. A: The Backtrack all the way to the very last fading notes of White Walls. It does strike me as odd that Between the Buried and Me do not receive as much attention as they should because this is the sound of a truly talented band with many broad and exciting ideas. Colors is certainly the most accessible, matured and varied that the band have ever sounded. Throughout the seven tracks there are nods to 'Beatles-esque' pop, 70's style prog-rock, country knees-ups and of course the brutality that BTAMB are most notable for. For those of you looking at the album wondering about whether not to purchase - I do warn you, if you have never heard Between the Buried and Me before they are not a band in which you can immediately delve into and be satisfied. A lot of the time this is 'thinking-mans' metal on epic scale. That being said the results of such dedication are very rewarding and this album will grow on you in massive ways so do not be put of and as I said before this album is fairly accessible in comparison to previous releases. Those of you who have already indulged in BTAMB's previous efforts should buy the studio recording of this immediately. All in all this album is incredible Live or in the studio. This comes at the highest recommendation. But now!
