I tried using the ColorMunki Smile to calibrate my Windows 7 Dell Laptop display. Although the software and calibration process ran smoothly, the resulting calibration profile reduced the contrast of the display significantly. Black turned into an obvious grey making photos look washed out. The colour balance was perfect but the reduction in display contrast was unacceptable. The Smile system has very simple software with no options to adjust the contrast or information as to why this was happening. I tried the Smile system on another Laptop and it worked fine, but it's not much use if you can't get two displays to match. I therefore returned it to Amazon who issued a refund. I subsequently bought the much more powerful i1 Pro (see my other review) and successfully calibrated the same Laptop display. Conclusion, if the Smile system works for you, it's simple cheap and fast. If it doesn't, then you're likely to need a more sophisticated system where you can make adjustments which just aren't possible in the Smile system software.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad problems 4 April 2013

Awful product. Firstly, couldn't get it installed right (like some other people) and had to contact X-Rite support who sent me another installer to install. Then when I did get it working and tried calibrating my dual monitors, the colours between the 2 were just different and noticeable. As well as this I noticed a small particle (looks like a tiny piece of plastic) stuck on one of the sensors which I dislike because it could affect the calibration. I am returning this to Amazon and have purchased the X-Rite DISPLAY instead which I highly recommend you do as well. For a few more 's it will save a lot of headache. Remember: you get what you pay for. Actually I'm sure this works well for some users, I have read some good reviews, but for some reason I've just had problem after problem. So I think it just depends how lucky you are.

2.0 out of 5 stars No good for colour balance 25 Nov 2013

This X-rite colour calibration tool is not worth thinking about, i have tried it on a couple of monitor's and it has never come close to setting the correct colour balance . This has got to be one of the worst tools to set your screens to. do not buy. I have just had a second dell monitor and has failed again to set the colour balance, you are far better off using the ICC profiles chart . Come on x-Rite this may be the lower end of your colour correction tools but it should be able to correct the colour casts

This product intalled and worked well on an older computer operating WindowsXP but failed to install on my new computer operating 64bit Windows7, and I have never managed to get it to work despite complex instructions from the manufacturers on how to set up my computer in order to accept it.

4.0 out of 5 stars seems to work well 12 Oct 2012

I installed this product on a windows 7 64 bit machine . As soon as the program starts It comes up with the following error XriteDevice.dll missing and crashes out . I have emailed the company several times but have received no feedback.

one week later I received a email from the company pointing me at an executable . This worked and I was able to calibrate my laptop and HDTV when used as a monitor.
Now seems to work well.

i had considered buying early versions but they were very expensive and with a top of the range MAC and PC i always felt it would not be necessary. but having bought the smile version i have seen improvements but just as important i feel more confident with the results.

Don't bother to order this item as it has been a waste of time. I couldn't even get the software downloaded successfully let alone try the equipment. No reply from supplier either!
