I was going to buy a Fostex headphone amplifier this summer, to make use of the digital output from an iPod Touch, but was very fortunate to see this player on the Amazon site before purchasing the Fostex. It is so much better than anything I have tried before, including my cherished Cowon S9, and can safely be thought of as real HiFi. Using its own headphone output, it is sensational, revealing all sorts of details in recordings that I had not heard before. But there is also a digital output, which into a DAC is even better. I haven't dared plug it into my Meridian processor as I am genuinely worried that it will eclipse other sources. As I understand it, very low jitter, and excellent upsampling create a really superb source to play your digital rips/dowloads. In practice, the effect is to be stopped in one's tracks, to then listen to music; it's like the music is being played live.
The Colorfly also gives you an opportunity to play the increasingly available HiRes recordings, which sound just fantastic.
I have to had add that the retailer (JLS Funk) offers superb support, and the Frankfurt team are also incredibly helpful (I had the wrong update file, when trying to update the firmware; the player worked flawlessly with the latest version of the firmware).
Problems are confined to a need to convert album files to a single file, as it is not 'gapless' yet, as the product is still evolving. If you can use Foobar to convert files - it is very easy - you can have the most amazing experience.

I think this product redefines what is possible; a high-end product you can take with you. It really is up there.

I received the Colorfly on Saturday and I have been listening to it and comparing it with my HiFiMan HM-801. In terms of music quality there is very little difference between the two (only the character is different where the HiFiMan is slightly darker in nature where the Colorfly is neutral). Both have absolute top music quality. I have tried the Colorfly with my ACS T1 custom IEMs through the mini jack output (the Colorfly sounded better than the HiFiMan with these), with my custom Grado HF2 headphone through the 1/4 inch jack output (sound quality equal) and with custom Grado HF2 through the 1/4 inch jack output connected to my custom ALO Amphora SE headphone amp (again sound quality equal).

Overall I would rate the Colorfly as being the best music player because it sounded better with my ACS T1 custom IEMs, has a built in 1/4 inch jack output, it looks a lot nicer, comes with a nice carrying case, has slightly better software, has 32gb internal storage (the HiFiMan has no internal storage, only SD cards) and is also about £50 cheaper than the standard HiFiMan. Also bear in mind that my HiFiMan has the upgraded headphone amp module and a 32gb SD card so the total cost of my HiFiMan is about £800 compared to £550 for the Colorfly.

I would highly recommend the Colorfly to anyone.

The main reason for purchasing the Colorfly was the sound quality. This part is very satisfactory, the sound quality is very good and I am very happy with Colorfly. I can use it with all my headsets, even with the most demanding ones I have. Perfect sound and highly recommended if the sound quality is the main factor.

The ability to play lossless flac files is excellent feature. However, Apple lossless would also be a benefit if you are using Apple lossless, to avoid conversion. I have not tested with mp3 format as I dot use that format.

I knew that the user interface is not the best possible and this has proven to be the bad part of the Colorfly. For example it is not possible to select whole folder for random play. In practice I have made special file collection for Colorfly to manage this part, not a big burden but a high-end player should have this simple feature available. It is also interesting that the player is always reset when powered off ie it will not start from the latest position but you have to start from the start meny.

Good point is the large capacity, I use microSDHC cards for different collections and with 32 G gives room for a good amount of files even in lossless format.

Colorfly has eq settings for a couple of music types but I always use "normal" position ie no correction

I was expecting that the volume control would be a problem when using Colorfly "from the pocket" but it has proven to be good ie the volume bar does not slide too easily. The analog volume control is far better than the electronic ones

As summary, if you prefer to have very good sound above other features and you mainly play either "shuffle only" or entire collections and you can sacrifice some time to prepare the files , Colorfly can be your player. If you are looking for easy-to-use cool player, Colorfly is not for you.

The main flaws in usability should be easy to fix with a firmware upgrade. I hope that Colofly will put some effort on that area, that would bring it to 5 star region.
