    It's all here, folks!
It was such a great honor for me to be asked by Northlight Books to write "Colored Pencil Portraits Step by Step" and one I took very seriously. I wanted to give you the very best I could. And as a self-taught artist with 12 years experience, I knew how valuable every bit of help can be...so I packed in as much info and as many examples as I possibly could in 128 pages. My goal was not to showcase my own work, but to help you improve yours!

I think you’ll find just about everything covered in "Colored Pencil Portraits": basic materials, composition, painting light, skin tones (including white, Asian, and black skin tones), every imaginable kind of hair, individual facial features, all kinds of clothing, and the painting sequence of a portrait, with tons of full-color demos in every chapter. I’ve also included a section on the "business side" of portraits, including finding clients, contracts and pricing. Whether you’re a rank beginner or a seasoned pro...or even an artist working in another medium, I really believe "Colored Pencil Portraits" has something in it for you!

Want to see more of my portrait work before hitting that shopping cart icon? Well, I can’t give you a URL for my website…..but a search on my name will take you there! Thanks for taking an interest in my book...and I wish you many hours of Happy Coloring!

    Format:Hardcover
A "must have" book for all colored pencil artists and for any artist interested in portraiture. Ann Kullberg has the talent to produce superlative work, but also the added ability to be able to explain how she does it and give hope to others that one day they might be that good! Worth the price just for the practical tips on what to do with pencils that you have sharpened almost to nothing, but more than this, a book I really enjoy just looking at.

Ann Kullberg's new book, "Colored Pencil Portraits Step by Step", is a complete and exciting collection of lessons and examples on the difficult subject of portraiture. Kullberg, a full time commission portrait artist, shares her methods and opinions in a very readable, understandable, and unpretentious way. She covers composing a portrait, seeing the light, creating believable skin tones, painting features and the face, painting hair, painting fabric, and putting it all together. Each section includes demonstrations, thorough explanations, and many examples of her exquisite artwork. The extensive discussion on skin tones is especially enlightening. In the last section, she takes the reader through several detailed multi step demonstrations. Kullberg's enthusiasm and love for her life's work is evident on every page. For anyone interested in drawing people with colored pencils, this book is a must!

    Brilliant artist! 20 Dec 2006
    Format:Paperback
For coloured pencil portraits of children, this book cannot be faulted. But I was a bit disappointed not to see more portraiture, as it was not made clear in the description that the pictures were of children. Having said that, the book is brilliant, and worth the money for the photos of the artist's work alone.
