I also expected more than just pictures of lots of patterns with simple K1 P1 instructions - not even a guide on how to hold or use more than one colour and stop your knitting ending up as separate strips! The Vogue Knitting book is far better with great instructions "Vogue Knitting": The Ultimate Knitting Book

There are far cheaper, more comprehensive, and lighter books around for knitting pattern basic stitches dont buy this either individually or as part of the set unless you want it as a coffee table book!

A Picture Book 19 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was rather disappointed with this book. There is not a section on colour knitting techniques! The photographed swatches of various designs are lovely and there are several pages at the end of the book on creating other designs so if you are looking for advice and techniques on colour knitting, forget it.

a little lacking 18 Jan 2007
By Judy K. Lathrop - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
While this is a very comprehensive collection of color patterns, I would not say that it is the COMPLETE resource. As far as I can tell, the how-to section includes just 2 pages that describe yarn-overs, increases and decreases.

Vogue should be ashamed of themselves to not include a discussion of stranding and weaving techniques, or even the simple instructions of crossing over yarns in jacquard and intarsia so as to not have a hole in the finished work.

Eye Candy Stitch Libraries 25 Feb 2007
By Mahlers2nd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The series of Vogue Stitch Libraries are by no means intended to be as complete as Barbara Walkers or probably even the Harmony guides. However, their production values are SOOOOOOO much better that I find myself going to these in order to get a better view and more inspiration than the Walker or Harmony guides. If you can only afford one set of stitch dictionaries, these probably wouldn't be it. However, if you are a stitch pattern junky like me, these are definately a good set to add to your collection.

Color is the thing ... 29 Nov 2006
By Armchair Interviews - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Collecting together more than 200 color knitting patterns from the pages of Vogue Knitting magazine, Color Knitting is the third volume in the Vogue Knitting Stitchionary series. Calling these volumes the "ultimate stitch dictionary," the editors of Vogue Knitting magazine have selected a range of designs sure to challenge and inspire knitters of all skill levels. For each pattern, a large sample swatch is shown; some in quite unusual color choices.

Color Knitting is made up of five chapters: Two Color, Fair Isle/Multicolor,

Intarsia/Motifs, Adding Texture, and Slip Stitch. In each chapter the patterns are organized from easiest to hardest. The patterns in the first three chapters are presented as graphs only. The final two sections, which incorporate both stitch patterns as well as color, are presented with both charts and written instructions.

Color, perhaps more than any other element of design, is subjective. Everyone has preferred colors, and the colors in which a design is shown can lead one to reject it without assessing the pattern itself. To provide an overall flow to the stitch dictionary, the editors have presented each chapter in a different palette. For this to be a useful volume, knitters must use it as a starting point, find their own preferred color scheme and be creative.

Vol. 2 - Cable Knitting

Vol. 3 - Color Knitting

Armchair Interviews says: Unique look at color use.
