Book Description

Lady Catherine de Bough has invited herself to Pemberley, intent upon bringing about an engagement between her daughter Anne and Colonel Fitzwilliam. Unlike Darcy, Fitzwilliam must marry for money and so cannot fail to oblige Lady Catherine.

But her ladyship has failed to take into account the improvement in her daughter’s health, brought about by the charismatic Mr. Asquith, inexplicably engaged by Lady Catherine to take Mrs. Jenkinson’s place as Anne’s tutor. Asquith opens Anne’s eyes with his worldly wisdom and engaging charm and she finds herself thinking the unthinkable.

For his part, Joshua Fitzwilliam longs for a love match to rival the Darcys. When he meets Celia Sheffield, a recent arrival in Derbyshire, he is enchanted by her beauty and wit. Widowed a year previously, Mrs. Sheffield’s fortune is being contested by someone from her past in Jamaica, from whence Mr. Asquith also hails. What is the connection between him and the woman Joshua has become fixated upon?

Lizzy Darcy, expecting her first child, struggles to remain on congenial terms with Lady Catherine. She is at her wits end when Mr. Collins unexpectedly arrives, bringing with him grave rumours regarding Mr. Asquith’s character.

Will Anne find the courage to defy her mother, risk being disinherited, and follow her heart? And what of Joshua? Can he save Celia from the debauched individual who wants more from her than mere monetary rewards…

More About the Author

I was brought up on the Isle of Wight, which perhaps explains my love of history. I mean, we have historic buildings littering the landscape at every turn. It's pretty hard to miss them so I write about lords and ladies from yester-year, swanning about these lovely places.

I now live in Andorra with my husband and a rescued dog of indeterminate pedigree. We divide our time between there and the west coast of Florida.

2.0 out of 5 stars No, No, No thank you! 21 Mar. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I would have given this another star (or maybe even two more) if it hadn't been for the unutterably irritating constant misuse of the name 'de Bourgh'. On first sighting it jarred, but I presumed it was a typographical error. However, I then discovered it continued throughout. Anyone who has read P&P knows the name, without a doubt, and yet, here we see it written de in Anne de Bough and Lady Catherine de Bough....Aaaarrrggghhhhh!! It is an unforgiveable error.

On a personal note I did not like that Lizzy addressed Fitzwilliam Darcy as Will. I felt it just didn't sit well with the character/s.

The storyline itself trotted along quite nicely and I did bother to finish it despite the irritations! It's not the worst P&P re-write or variation that I've read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, but still enjoyable 16 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I give this variation four stars because of the entertainment value and look forward to the authors next offering, but particular towards the end I found it a bit predictable and perhaps too neatly tied up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good read. 7 April 2014

I have enjoyed reading this story very much. I loved the characters both well known & new. A very interesting story line. Nothing too far fetched. All threads tied up very neatly at the end.

I enjoyed the book as it delved into the other relationships within Pride and Predudice, notably Anne and Lady Catherine. What marred it for me was that later in the book there were mistakes which to be fair could have been the translation from hard copy to e book.
