Product Description

This is an exciting and humorous contemporary mystery story from a new Irish author. Colm thinks that spending a fortnight with his cousin - The Brute - is the worst thing that can happen to him this summer. He's about to find out he's wrong. While driving The Brute home, Colm and his parents stop for the night at a quiet, old hotel. The Brute falls in love for the first time, with the mysterious American granddaughter of their hotel owner and forces Colm to help him win her over. When strange things begin to happen, Colm finds himself in the middle of a baffling and exciting adventure. Colm and The Brute must overcome their dislike of each other and work together if they're going to find Colm's parents and solve the murky mystery of the Lazarus Key.

Good Irish book 30 July 2010
By Tina
Format:Paperback
The subject of this book is exactly as the title says - Colm and the Lazarus Key. Colm, his parents and his cousin are forced to stay in an old country hotel in Ireland (there's no other place to stay around) but they are the only guests there and it's a bit spooky and while in the hotel library, Colm comes across a book called `The Book of Dread', only to be told that anyone who touches the book is cursed and will not live through the night. Colm proceeds to read the book anyway hoping there might be a solution to the curse within its pages, and while reading the book he learns about the mysterious Lazarus Key and its powers/curse. However somebody else also knows about and is after the Lazarus Key and arrives at the hotel.... To give away any more would spoil the book so all I'd say is give it a go if you like a bit of adventure combined with a bit of a supernatural feel. It is a book for teenagers but adults will enjoy it too (as I did...). The end is left open so I'm eagerly awaiting a sequel...

My 10 year old is an avid Percy jackson fan and really enjoyed this book too. Looking forward to the next one.

Looking for a book for my 11 year old nephew can be difficult. He is WAY too old for the younger stuff (as he keeps telling me), and not old or interested enough for the adult stuff. Bought for him, it has now been read by every member of the family, in some cases multiple times. I had a go myself and enjoyed it also.
This is a fast paced adventure where Colm and his family stumble upon the ancient mystery of the lazarus key. There is moderate peril along the way - just enough to get younger readers wrapped up in the story. There is also a funny subplot with Colms cousin falling for a young american girl.
The story trundles on to a very satisfying conclusion and the characters are interesting enough to wonder what the future holds for them. Hopefully we'll find out.
