4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Colloquial Yiddish 4 May 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book deals with the Yiddish language with the typical "Colloquial" approach. First there is a short dialogue, followed by explanations of the grammar and then exercises. Its introduction to the Hebrew alphabet is also very good. Recommended for anyone wishing to learn this language.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect introductory course in Yiddish 21 April 2013
By Slim
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Colloquial Yiddish is a very well written approach to learning the Yiddish language. All of the building blocks of the language are presented in a manner which makes language acquisition easier. The accompanying CD, sold separately, completes the course. All aspects of the Yiddish language are covered, from then alphabet through to a competent grasp of grammar and essential vocabulary. This course will teach you reading, writing and speaking. Also covered is Yiddishkeit, otherwise known as Yiddish culture. The latter is necessary for real competency in the language. If you ever wanted to learn Yiddish, now is your chance. Buy the book and CD together. Work diligently and you will be very satisfied with the result.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book 20 Feb 2014
This book is very good. I like the structure of the book. The book is very clear and is structured in a classical way. A text followed by vocabulary and then a portion of grammar. The following audio CD is a very good help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended! 1 Dec 2011
As a student, I strongly recommend this book to those who itch to discover the treasure behind the Yiddish literature or the Jewish history, or just want to get feet wet in the language itself. This book is well-organised in introdicing alphabet, handwriting, grammatical points as well as cultural background. Unlike Latin, Biblical Hebrew and Ancient Greek, Yiddish, despite the decrease of its speakers, is a living language, afterall. This book focuses more on colloquial practice than simply reading. This is a very important part because speaking is the foundation of mastering a language. The author, obviously, understands the purpose of learning a new language.

It contains enough vocabulary for daily use and has links for further study. Yiddish is not difficult, but very complicated and requires logic. The book is designed so well that nobody finds the language so hard to learn. I've been looking for books of Yiddish learning, but when I saw this one, I think it is time I stopped looking and got down learning with this book!

Excellent book! Five Stars!
