I purchased this map to replace the 2001 Collins world map and although this review is short comparison between the two, I do hope that some of the information supplied will be of some use.
The dimensions are as follows (give or take a few mm):
2010 edition: Total size - 990mm(h) x 1345mm(w). Size of main map only 810mm(h) x 1320mm(w). 2001 edition: Total size - 1000mm(h) x 1500mm(w). Size of main map 920mm(h) x 1470mm(w)
The main difference between the two maps (apart from the appearance of new countries) is that the 2010 edition has added basic country data (area in sq.miles/kms, population size, national currency, capital city and website address(es)) underneath the main map. This, in turn, has meant that the main map occupies a smaller area than the 2001 edition. The 2010 edition also has a couple of small circular maps showing the north and south polar regions.
The colour scheme has also changed. Whereas the 2010 edition is quite multi-coloured, the 2001 edition on the otherhand, uses various hues of a single colour for each continent. So, for example, African countries alternated between different hues of dark/light orange, European countries were dark/light purple and North/Central America and Caribbean countries were allocated dark/light pink.
Unlike the 2001 edition, the 2010 edition has added some land/sea physical relief. However, the combination of the relief and darker colour hues (compared to the 2001 edition) has meant that some places names can be a little hard to read, especially where the place names are located on or near moutainous regions.
So, to conclude, apart from the fact that some place names maybe a little hard to read (for the reason(s) stated previously), I certainly haven't regretted my purchase and I give the 2010 edition a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
