5.0 out of 5 stars The clearest reference work on the French language today, 5 Oct 2001

This review is from: Collins Robert French Dictionary (Hardcover)
No question about it, Collins have got the right idea when it comes to bilingual reference. I already own the German and Spanish counterparts to this French volume, and I had every confidence that it would be as comprehensive, clear and on the ball as the other two on my bookshelf.

Full of useful contexts for almost every entry, it's not only a reference but a great learning tool. As a language teacher I can use it as a reliable source of French words in active use, ranging from colloquialisms to elevated, literary styles. This dictionary has it all!

The addition of a pronunciation guide on CD was an added bonus, and will be very useful in the classroom.

Highly recommended for anyone working with French!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb - Simply the best!, 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Collins Robert French Dictionary (Hardcover)
This is simply an excellent dictionary - very easy to use, a good layout, packed full of relevant idioms with definitions - this dictionary would suit both the casual learner and serious student. Various other helps are included but its best strength is the depth of 'example definition' provided whlist still being dead easy to navigate.

whilst reading the dictionary for my french A-level course i have found it superb to a point of amazement. i believe it to be far superior to any other dictionary i have used. having used it for a year i have recommended it to all of my classmates and i have persuaded the teacher into buying it for the a-level group next year. i would just like to thank you personally and hope you continue to make them for years to come. i would decribe it as "lovely stuff"
