4.0 out of 5 stars Good shore guide 25 Feb 2009
By Amy
Format:Paperback
This is a good shore guide for anyone professional or amateur. My university uses this book widely for all kinds of field studies. I would not agree with the previous comment as I have used my copy many a time and it is still in relatively good condition as are many of the heavily used copies at my uni. The main downside of it is the inaccuracy of the drawings and colors which is partly due to the variations of the species in nature. Despite this downfall it is still the best of it's kind and a brilliant general ID guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars INVALUABLE GUIDE TO THE SEA SHORE 18 Oct 2012

It is a great pity that this book is no longer in print. Beautifully illustrated and well researched,it is great to take beachcombing and for identifying your 'treasures' at the end of the day. We were lucky to find a copy in good condition and are delighted. The Readers Digest "Field Guide to the Waterlife of Britain" makes an excellent companion publication. Both contain sufficient detail without being too academic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shame it's out of print 20 April 2012
By Chris
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you ever see a copy of this book in a shop, or here, for less than £10, buy it!

It's an excellent graphic guide with information on key features, distribution, life cycles etc, on most flora and fauna you could expect to find on the seashore, and then some. It was one of my degrees recommended reading, I still have and treasure my copy. Now working at the university that I studied in, we have to keep a close eye on our remaining copies of this book, as it's so good it tends to "go missing"!
