This dictionary is a superb edition to my collection. I have a 1800+ page Chambers dictionary and this 1334 page Scrabble dictionary compliments it wonderfully.

It has a good feel of quality about it. Quality paper has been used, a hard back cover and dust jacket are supplied. The words are clearly laid out and organised. The text font is modern and clear.

It tells the reader in the preface that 267,649 words are included in this dictionary. Now that is a lot of words indeed. Also, if you play Scrabble regularly you will appreciate the fact that all the plurals of a word are listed. For example: Zex (a tool for cutting) has Zexes listed on a separate entry. The same goes for words which can have extensions applied to them. For example: Bounce can become Bounced, Bouncer, Bouncers, Bounces, Bounciest, Bouncily, Bouncy, Bouncier, Bouncing. This novel feature is something I have been looking for in a dictionary. To have ALL the extensions (not just most) like this is impressive and something a Scrabble player will find valuable. A Scrabble master should also know that the word: NEXT can be pluralised into NEXTS. That is a weird one, but essential for hookiing strategies in Scrabble. You will not find NEXTS in almost all dictionaries but this one.

This dictionary ends all the debates and arguments you will have had in the past over things like plurals, etc...

The Collins Official Scrabble Dictionary is also endorsed by WESPA (World English Scrabble Player's Association) and ABSP (Association of British Scrable Players). This says it all...

This dictionary contains every word used in Club and Tournament play.

Lastly, please accept my apologies for the reviewer who gave this book only 1 star. This is a 5 star book.

Amazon have the best price for this particular dictionary.

You can not go wrong with this excellent dictionary. 5 Stars.

Impressive 18 Jan 2008

dawbake: (Greek, see Proverb 18:24): adhering - cleave, joining, stick closer.
Ok, that answers the above reviewers question. The book is an impressive collection, at least now I stand a chance when playing against my PC! Not sure that is worth the list price (£25), but well worth the Amazon price, (£12). One of my better purchases of unseen books.

What's not to like? 26 Sep 2008
All the allowable words are here, so what's not to like? I prefer using a dictionary to wordlists, as I like to see the meaning of new words. Helps me to remember them. This dictionary gives brief but adequate meanings.
Good quality paper and clear, easy to read, print.
