1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By Marand TOP 100 REVIEWER on 10 Dec. 2012
Format: Paperback
This is a really excellent introduction for anyone wishing to understand a bit more about the night sky. You don't need a telescope - it covers things that can be seen with the naked eye or with binoculars. The authors actually counsel against rushing out to buy a telescope.

There is plenty of clear & straightforward information to get you started, with sky maps, a chapter on the moon, another on the planets including position. There is information on other objects in the sky such as satellites, meteors, comets, nebulae, etc.. After this you get an alphabetical analysis of the constellations, with a two page spread for most explaining the stars in the constellation with a facing page showing the constellation and its relationship to nearby constellations to make starfinding easier.

A compact and useful astronomy guide. The compact size of both the book and the planisphere that comes with it makes it easy to carry around.
